Try the solution suggested by kriswauters. Could be a motherboard problem but it could also be a bad keyboard. I would certainly invest in a new keyboard and see if that corrects your problem. Laptop keyboards are fairly inexpensive.

I have an Acer Aspire 5517. Just the other day, my touchpad and keyboard stopped working. What do I do?

1 . Look for Fn function key - Most laptops have this special key Fn that is next to the Ctrl key on the keyboard. It should have a blue or green color, easy to find.

2 . Look for F1 to F12 functions keys, they are on the top row of the keypad. Look for one has an icon that looks like the touch pad, which is to control the touch pad of your laptop. It maybe F8 or F9 depends on each make of your laptop. These function keys also control the brightness, sound, wireless etc.

3 . Now hold down the Fn key and the F10 key to enable the touch pad, in this example, the Toshiba laptops. You press them again to disable it

4 . If none of the above works, plug in an USB mouse, then check into the Control Panel -> touch pad or mouse configurations. Also, check Device Manager if the touch pad driver is installed and working properly.

Thanks.Have a great day.

The scroll function on the keypad mouse has stopped working.

Try going into control panel and opening mouse settings. Or in the task bar you might have an applet for pad- open settings and reset the scroll feature.

Touch pad stopped working

Did you turn the touch pad off accidentally? To turn it back on just hit (Fn) Function+F7

If that didn't work, go to Device Manager, Mice and other pointing devices, properties and check the status. If its OK, reinstall the driver, and power off the machine and reboot.

If there are no drivers visible during a reinstall, download them from the Acer website.

If all these did not work and your laptop is under warranty, have the manufacturer replace the touchpad.

Key board and touch pad do not work

Did it shut off on the keypad? Sometimes things are being so frustrating that we forget that the keypad has a shutoff that can get bumped. Make sure it's on.
