Dll user32.dll problem

Certain programs may not start after you install security update 925902 (MS07-017) and security update 928843 (MS07-008) on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2). Additionally, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: application_executable_name - Illegal System DLL Relocation

The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\Windows\System32\Hhctrl.ocx occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

RTHDCPL.EXE err

Error Message after Installing Security Updates 925902 and 928843 This afternoon (April 3rd, 2007) my Automatic Updates alerted me about a couple updates I needed to install, so I did. Upon rebooting the computer though I was confronted with the following error message
"RTHDCPL.EXE - Illegal System DLL Relocation"

"The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The Application will not run properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL."

Cause of Error Message

Turns out this error occurs when the Realtek HD Audio Control Panel by Realtek Semiconductor Corporation is installed. This is my built-in sound card on my computer.

The HHCTRL.OCX file that is included in the Security update 928843 and the User32.dll files that is included in Security Update 925902 have conflicting base addresses. When Windows loaded the HHCTRL.OCX file before it loads the User32.DLL file, the problem occurs.

The error occurs when the following third party programs or applications are installed on a computer with Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed.
Realtek HD Audio Control Panel
ElsterFormular 2006/2007
TUGZip
CD-Tag
Microsoft now has released a patch to correct the problems, you can go to the following link to download and install the patch for the patch :-)

My laptop cannot install my audio software

This was a windows update that messed up the audio driver, go to your motherboard website and download the audio driver again, it may be Realtek, depending on whether you have HD audio or standard stereo

DLL Install Conflicts

Hello,

Sounds like you have a corrupted ActiveX control. Fortunately it is very easy to verify this by locating a folder in your Windows sub folder call Downloaded Program Files. c:\(windows)\Downloaded Program Files\.

Once you open this folder you can right click the ActiveX control entry and select update or in most cases choose Properties to diagnose a problem. When you select Properties, you'll be presented with a popup with three tabs, the dependency tab, when selected, may have a notice that the Control is damaged/broken. If it is, back out and then right click the Control in question and choose Remove. When needed the ActiveX control will download again.

If however, you get this Alert of an attempt to relocate in memory a critical system file then chances are high this ActiveX control is Malware or a Trojan because according to Microsoft programming standards, there is never a reason to change that DLL in question and this is one of many DLLs that have reserved addresses in memory for a reason. It would only be attempting to change that file if you are under attack.

To be certain you are virus/malware/trojan clean go to:
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

It too will want to download and install an ActiveX control so look for the Alert Bar and you can definetly trust this Control. Once installed it will scan your system using a database at their online site that has not chance of being infected.

If you have any questions, concerns or need for more clarification please don't hesitate to use the comment box below to contact me.

Regards,
Worldvet
