I have a RCA 46 inch TV Model #P46921 that recently started having issues with the convergence being off. There is red, green, and blue lines are all messed up. Sometimes you can fix it by unplugging the TV and plugging it back in. I tried going to the menu of the TV and adjusting the picture by going to the screen menu and then going to "Adjust Projection TV" so that I can fix the red, green, and blue colors...but my TV no longer offers this on the menu. It has in the past but it doesn't any more??!! Does this require a repair person to come out and fix it and how much on average should it cost??

One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out
Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.
Common Symptoms include....
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.
Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.
The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded over.
Go to Menu then setup look for convergence if you do not see convergence on menu then you have a open FUSE FL231 it is on right side of FBT flyback transfomer there is 3 of them small brown rectrangler looking caps it will be the one in the Middle.
First, this assumes nothing else is going on to cause it. Here's what I did. Go to the 'green grid' via the v76 menu and go through the alignment there. Notice that there are red letters, blue letters, and a green grid. While you are in this screen, adjust the red, green, and blue focus watching the individual color's item until they are in focus. If they won't focus here, they won't focus and you have something else wrong (what I do not know). Then, return to normal programming, then select menu on the remote, then screen, then adjust projection tv convergence both horizontal and vertical crosshare. That ought to get it.
