Assuming that you deleted the ethernet driver.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid

if you placed any other modem in the system, then tell the modem name. or else it is an onboard ethernet. you can driver from the above location

I had to restore my dell 4600 with the cd's I have. But now I have no drivers. No network connections.I think I need a drivers cd

All the drivers are available on the Dell Official Website. I hope windows xp is installed on your system. There are many network hardwares like wireless and so on... I can't give you the specific link and don't know what exactly you want to download, but I am giving you the instructions on how to download the drivers..

Open this link (click here), from the lists of available drivers, click "Network", once you click the "network", you'll see another lists of network drivers, find out the required driver and click the "download" button corresponding to the driver, another small window will pop up with options to download, click on the second download button i.e. "Download Via Your Internet Browser" and proceed with download.

If you need further help, let me know with a detailed information about your problem.

Good luck

Thanks for using FixYa.

How do you delete a failed operating system on dell 4600 using windows xp

Start to reinstall Windows XP -- one of the options will be to "format" (write 'zero' values everywhere) onto the disk-drive. Voila! EVERYTHING will be "gone".

Dell Dimension 4600 desk top out of virtual memory

Some computers can be slow or short of hard drive space for quite simple reasons.
Windows and other program hide temporary files in lots of different places
The best option is not always a program or utility and if you want to do as much as you can for FREE like I do then you have a few options.

1. First you need to be in windows explorer.

2. Click TOOLS and FOLDER OPTIONS

3. Now click the VIEW tab

4. Tick the Show Hidden Files And Folders option
Unpick Hide Protected Operating System Files (it may warn you but you can ignore it)

5. Click APPLY then OK

6. NOTE some files may not delete this is OK Also DO NOT DELETE the folder itself where mentioned for cleaning.

7. Using windows explorer go into the WINDOWS folder and look for a directory called TEMP (it is possible there may be more than one)

8. Select all the contents and delete them. Do the same for any other temp folder e.g. temp000

9. Now navigate to Documents and Settings
There are quite a few folders in here that can be cleaned up

10. Look for folders named "Local Settings" In there you will find more TEMP folders that can be cleaned out

11. Now look inside the Temporary Internet Files. Delete anything EXCEPT cookies. Otherwise passwords for some sites you have stored may need you to type the password again.

12. Do this for each user / profile you see.

13. Now check the C: drive itself and see if there are any Temp folders and clean those out too

To prevent accidental deletion of any files windows needs you should go back to step (4) and change the two settings back to their original

Hope this gives you the information you need

I closed my business last month and my desk top dell dimension was networked with microsoft xp pro and i want to take the hard drive from that somputer and install it in my home computer which is a stand...

HI,
When you remove the harddrive from a computer and plug it into a different machine though of the same model. It would not boot, because the operating system product key is unique to the machine. If you want to use this particular hdd in your home system, make it a secondary harddrive or reload windows on the harddrive again. But doing so , you would remove everything from the harddrive.

Thanks for using Fixya

Dell Dimension 4700 - Driver Reset

1st you need to download or install all the drivers for your Dell computer. Try to use the drivers/utilities disks first. Once you can get online, go to Dell.com and look up your model 4700 and download all the missing drivers. Your Linksys Router is not a modem. The Linksys has the modem connected to it for wireless connections.

Computer starts up in DOS

What operating system do you have installed? If you are using windows Then you need to repair your boot files. Start with boot.ini. you can open this using notepad editor. the info should read:[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Thats is you are using XP Home Edition operating system. If this doesn´t work then you need to run msconfig. Start menu select Run, then type msconfig.Startup selection should be normal check box. System.ini should have all check boxes checked,Same as win.ini, when you get to boot.ini tab, no boxes should be checked. I hope this helps. Start with the second method first ok.

Driver problems

JPWatson, This link will take you to the drivers for your Dimension 4600 with Windows XP: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/devices.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600&os=WW1&osl=EN As far as the PC showing you already have a connection I would ignore that for now. Just download the appropriate drivers from this Dell page including the network interface card drivers and install them first. After you have rebooted and verified that the hardware devices are working correctly then start troubleshooting your Internet connection if it is still necessary. Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t forget to rate this post.
