Change region code on my printer to except 02 ink instead of 363

I purchased HP 02 ink while in the USA for my HP C5180. When i installed it the printer says it will only except 363 ink even though they are both the same. How can I make my printer except the 02 ink.

Bought the C7280 in Norway where it came equipped with 363 cartridges. Later moved to Brazil and needed to replace some of the cartridges. In Brazil only 02 cartridges are available! They´re just like the 363 but the printer rejects them! Is there any way around this issue?

I bought my HP Photosmart C5180 All in One in France before moving to Venezuela and am having the same problem.  HP technicians recommend resetting the region code to use the US 02 cartridges...a challenge to use up all the cartridges at the same time. (as an added bonus for your trouble - they charge 50$ for the necessary procedure if the machine is past warranty!)

I would prefer to just de-zone my machine (like the DVD players) as I move a lot and will no doubt have to go through this again in a year... anyone know how?

I moved from the UK to the US with an hp 7310 all in one and also ran into the same problem. You need to call HP support for them to change the region of your printer to accept the locally available ink cartridges. A max of 3 changes is allowed, and as the previous poster has mentioned, if your printer is out of warranty they will try to sell you an extended warranty to "fix" the problem. Here is a link from baconvsprout detailing the problem and trying to get it fixed. http://www.baconvsprout.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=101:hp-customer-service-and-region-coded-printers&catid=35:sprout&Itemid=59
in short the best way to get around it is to get your cartridges refilled. In the US Office Max charges $10 for black which is about1/5 the price of the retail hp393 cartridge that I need to purchase from the UK. in my opinion I am going to avoid HP products from now on.

You can change the regional code (to recognize inks in a particular country/region) by accessing the service menu on the printer:
Either one of the procedures below applies to all printers which use HP02 or HP363 ink cartridges. For additional HP02 support information, please visit our HP02 system support page which also includes many videos procedures: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1372

A. HP02 ink-series printers with KEYPAD (i.e. keypad numbers 1-9)
Tap 43 PRINTHEAD Health Diagnostics:
Video Procedure: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2391
1. Press * and # keys simultaneously.
2. "Enter Special Key Combo" will be displayed.
3. Press 123 to display the 'Support/Service' menu.
4. Locate REGION menu and make appropriate selection.

B. HP02 ink-series printer models that DO NOT HAVE a KEYPAD:
1. Turn ON the printer.
2. Press and Hold the "Print Photos" & "Red Eye Removal" buttons.
3. Release both buttons.
4. You will see a new screen that says, "Enter Special Key Combo"... The Key combo is: press and release in sequence the "Red Eye Removal", "Print Photos", and then "Red Eye Removal"

If the ink cartridges have an onboard chip, you can't.

You have to regionalise your printer to work with the cartridges you have to put in the cartridge code into the printer and only HP technicians can do it and as your printer is OOW there will be a charge on this

Hi there
I have just done exactly the same thing - a Uk printer but now in the USA - were you able to resolve or is the only solution to buy a new printer or get cartridges shipped from the UK. Its ridiculous.
have you found a better solution??

I installed 177 cartridges instead of 363 and of course the machine seems to know this! can it be programmed to accept the 177

No. Printer manufacturers vary the electronics on machines between countries. For example, you have a machine purchased from the UK that is the same as a model you can purchase in the US. The ink cartridges available in the US cannot be used in the UK machine because they essentially cannot communicate with each other.

Using 02 series cartridges in 363 configured printer

Hi,
You are correct those printers & cartridges are designed to work only in their original countries of origin…
For example if you bought the printer in Europe, it uses the #363 cartridges.. If you were to have bought the printer in the US it would use the #02.

You can contact HP and over the phone they can help you turn your printer from a #363 into a #02…ou might need to have a “story” ready ;)

Once the conversion is done, from that moment onwards, your printer will only take #02 carts...

Only HP can make that change...

Cheers,
Ed

Re-configuring for european ink cartridges

i had thed same problem. after hours of trying different options i finally got it to work. i have a hp 3210 that i brought from the usa to irelnad and when i put in irish cartrtidges it said " this printer is cinfigured to use 02 cartridges" Iriss cartridges are 363. so what i done was , while the printer was turned on i held down the " Black" button and the "Color" button at the same time. Keeping them held I powered off the printer , keeping them held until the printer was completely powered off. when i turned the printer back on the region had being reset and it asked me to choose my language and country. chose " Ireland". Now works!!!

HP bought in Europe, and North American cartridges not working

you would need the logic board replaced which would exceed what the printer is worth,

Can't use my original ink # 363

Actually you cannot use your # 363 ink on your photosmart c6180. The ink is not compatible with the printer. Photosmart c6180 only uses HP02 vivera inks. And there is no way that you can reconfigure it because it is factory default. Unless you bought an HP02 ink from other country outside US and bought the printer in US, that's the only time that we can reconfigure the regionalization of the printer

Wrong colour cartridges

Did you try the genuine HP cartridge? Maybe you should try first the original Ink Cartridge.
