Check to see if theres a bad connection where the wires come from the freezer door and the frig itself under the upper hing cover

Crushed ice does not work but cubed ice works as well as water.

pull down and turn the pole that fits over the bar. This should work. If it is not changing by itself, then the solenoid will have to be replaced

Ice dispenser won't dispense whole ice cubes, only crushed

I found a temporary solution, I moved the bar so that the sliding door stays open and
stuck a piece of cardboard in it so it stays in the open position. I still need to get the
right tools to take the screws off on the side of the back panel because there is not
much room.

Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator ice dispenser

First pull out the ice bucket and close the door.  Set for cubed ice.  Press the button for ice to come out and listen for a loud clunk noise.  That is the sound of the solenoid.  You can open the door, hold the light switch and press the button and watch for the solenoid moving up and down.  Solenoid is at the back of the freezer in a little square opening where the rod on the ice bucket goes into.  If that solenoid is moving ok then put the bucket back in while the solenoid is in the down position and cubes should work.  If solenoid is not working then it will need to be replaced.  Let me know what you find.
