It's supposed to be self-igniting--but I have to try 4 - 6 times to ignite gas--what am I doing wrong as I follow instructions - it's very frustrating to spend 5 minutes just to light the stove top ring.

This is definitely an electrical problem. Check the circuit breaker on the wall plate (where the cooktop is plugged in) as well as at the fuse box. If that is not the problem, you may need an electrician.

Try another outlet first. The ignitor runs off a grounded circut that could be messing with the GFI. I have had manufactures reccommed not using GFI's with relite ignitor systems.

Boy, I had a Thermador that used to drive me bats.
The best solution was to clean around the ignitor pin and make sure the orifices closest to the ignitor are not blocked... It made a big difference.
I used a small fine metal bristle brush.. did the trick.

Check to make sure your burner caps are aligned. I had this problem, and it turned out one of my burner caps was slightly askew. Putting it level fixed the problem.

unplug the stove and plug it back in. if it keeps ticking, your spark module is going bad
