I have a Thomson DTI6300-16 pvr. When I plug it in I just get a flashing orange light and nothing else happens. I want to get this fixed rather than replace it because I have some recorded items which I want to recover one way or another. Is the problem simple (ish) to fix or alternatively is there some way to extract data from the hard drive. I've already tried removing it and putting it in my PC as a second drive but although it recognises the drive it can't read the data presumably because of disk format.

Hi, a common problem with the thomson freeview boxes is capacitors leaking in the power supply, The ones that go usually are the two 1000uf capacitors. If any of the capacitors look deformed, ie the tops look domed in any way. I would change them , Handy if you know how to use a soldering iron. If you can use a soldering iron remember to put the new capacitor in the same way ( the wires are marked so you must put them in the same way round). pete
This is a problem that i had with my DTI6300-16 it is the main hv capacitor on the psu (22uf 400v) it tested about 18uf so i replaced it,it now is working without picture breakup.i hope this helps?
That is a common symptom of a defected electrolytic capacitor in amplifier section. Look for that capacitor and replace it,so it works again..
Hope it may help you...
Does your Thomson DTi6300 fail to power on normally and displays a solid amber light?
During the past few days we have been made aware of an issue affecting a number of our customers with a Thomson DTi6300 box. Customers have been experiencing problems with their box failing to come out of standby mode and typically showing a constant amber light on the front panel.
This fault is due to a broadcast issue which has led to a corrupt file being loaded onto the hard disk. Only Thomson DTi6300 boxes have been affected. If you have been experiencing problems of this nature first of all try switching your box off at the wall and leave for twenty seconds. If this does not work, please try the following procedure.
Please note this will unfortunately cause recordings in your programme library to be lost which we?re very sorry about. You may have to try this procedure a few times in order to resolve the issue as it requires complete attention and precise timing.
1.Disconnect the power supply from the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the box. 2.Wait 20 seconds and then put the power cable back in while pressing the 'standby/power on' buttonrepeatedly on the front panel of the box. 3.Release the standby button as soon as you see a light flash on the front of your box and thenimmediately press the arrow buttons on the front panel quickly and in the following sequence:Up, Down, Left, Right (please note this is not the order the arrow buttons appear on the box). 4.Your box should then show the amber light with the green light flashing until the disk re-format has been completed which will take around 60 seconds. The box should return to a solid red light (standby) automatically. If after 2 minutes your box still does not display a solid red light, please repeat steps 1-4. 5.When you return to the TV GUIDE screen, you will now need to scan for channels to restore your Top Up TV channel logos. To do this, please select Option 4 (set-up) from the Main Menu, followed by option 1 (scan for channels). 6.IMPORTANT: Once you have completed your channel scan, you will need to select option 5 from the Main Menu (Choose your channels) to re-select all those channel providers you would like Top Up TV to download shows from.
We?re really sorry if you have been affected by this issue and greatly regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
Please note that we are currently aware of an issue affecting some Thomson DTi6300 boxes.
If your DTR will not come out of standby and is not responding to your remote control, please try the following procedures.
Step 1: Power cycle
First of all, remove the power to the box and wait 20 seconds before restoring power.
Wait while the box tries to restart and allow 2 -3 minutes for this to complete.
Try this at least twice.
If it doesn't go to the solid green light then proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Front Panel Reset
Note: This procedure will unfortunately cause you to lose all of the
recordings that you have stored on the box. You will need to be able
access the back of the DTR and the front panel buttons
1. Remove power to the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the DTR.
2. Wait 20 seconds and restore the power cable while holding in the standby/power on button on the front panel of the DTR.
3. Release the standby button immediately you see a light 'blip' on the
DTR front display and then immediately press the following front panel
arrow buttons in sequence Up>Down>Left>Right
4.The DTR will now show the Orange LED with the Green LED flashing
until the format has been completed in about 60 seconds. The DTR will
return to ON automatically.
5. If requested, perform a channel scan to complete the operation.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our Customer Services

Usually to fix most odd problems on the Thomson digi box you should do a hard disk format every couple of months, select menu, setup, help,
press green button on remote
this shows advanced menu, press blue button, warning should show,
press green button to proceed
takes about 2mins you lose all recorded programs
If the problem is the box stays at red, and won't switch on,
pull the mains plug wait a few secs then push and hold the the standby
button on the main box (not remote) then insert mains plug, as soon as the
red light flashes release the standby button and very quickly press
menu and OK in that order, don't hang about, it has to be done very quickly
I had to do it several times before I got it right, this loads a preloaded firmware
and the box will come alive again the box will upload new firmware in a couple of hours.
THOMSON DTI6300-25 my mother has one of these but the recorded programs jam so now she can't watch what shes recordered or record anything else (3rd replacement box to do this)
