I have both an 8170c and 8180c ImageClass
printer/multifunction unit and would like to
override the "prepare new drum" message if
possible...
Considering that the drum costs half as much as the new printer, and the message comes up every 3-4 months, I'd like to be able to
use the drum unit until there is actually some degradation in image quality
thanks

I realize that the image drum and toner cartridges contain an electronic chip that contains data on how many times the unit has been used
What I am wondering is: is there a "reset" function that allows a technician to clear the memory of the chip so that the printer can continue to operate beyond the set number of copies that is programmed into the drum unit?Sorry Daniyal, I don't understand...
What did you mean to say about a "chip"?

I have the same message on my MF8180C to "Prepare New Drum ". I to would like to decide when to replace it not them. Last week it forced me to replace my black cartridge. It would not let me print until I did replace it. There was no problem with the print quality. Has anyone had success with defeating this to continue on? Where do we get those chips from???
Where do we get those chips from???
You can't post conmments that contain an email address.
You have to paste a piece of paper on the sensors that looks like 2 blocks (i used the sticky side of a post it note). that will fool the printer and get rid of the prompt
I tried pasting the sticky on the sensors and it did get rid of the drum prompt, but now it won't print at all and I get a message saying "check printer". The print quality is still excellent. Any ideas??I tried pasting the sticky on the sensors and it did get rid of the drum prompt, but now it won't print at all and I get a message saying "check printer". I do not understan your reply completely.
Where does the extra chip come from?
Can a used one be put back in on a old cratridge?
Where do you buy a new chip if you want one

Are you using 3rd party cartridge or OEM replace the cartridge with OEM. Which cartridge does it say to check does your machine, have separate drum and toner cart. replace the right one.
Is it a white or black line? There can be a piece of paper in the drum cartridge or the drum is damaged!Scratched!Try replacing the drum cartridge!Good Luck!
E078 secondary transfer roller drive mechanism fault
Possiblle causes: Check the connector of the roller drive sensor. Check the connector of the roller drive clutch. Replace the main drive assembly (roller Drive sensor). Replace the drum cartridge (roller drive cam). Replace the DC controller PCB.
If this was the case all the time, I would imagine you have an incorrect driver in the Laser Printer. You should be able to upgrade the drivers by contacting the the Canon Co. If this is a new problem the static bar that runs across the drum has lost it's positive charge to produce the picture should be replaced ... its not cheap !
