Garmin Maps I would like to know if it is possable to load Garmin Bluechart to a Magellan triton, should I replace the image file on the sd card with the Garmin image file? Also the answer to my 76cx two maps to one sd card, can I install Bluecharts and roadmaps as one file?

Did you rename the file extensions? On the unit, the map file and map unlock file must be named gmapprom.img and gmapprom.unl

On the SD card they must be named gmapsupp.img and gmapsupp.unl.

Also copy your garmindevice.xml file over to the SD card too.

I recommend upgrading your system software to the latest version (5.30),
follow this link for directions and the file's location.

1. Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer.
2. Choose a location where you can easily find the file, such as the 'My Documents' folder or 'C:\'.
3. Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
4. Double-click on the downloaded file. This will automatically extract the files to C:\Garmin and run a program to transfer the software update to an SD card.
5. Load the SD card into your GPSMAP 545s and turn it on to replace the system software of your unit.

I wanted to add maps to my 250W. I found the maps I wanted on a Torrent. However, many searches around various forums never revealed how to install these. Found the following through reading and experimentation.

1. Downoaded map image file GMAPSUPP.IMG. Download also gave me "Use code XXX when generating unlock code for maps"
2. Downloaded Garmin Unlock Generator 1.3 by JetMouse
3. Looked on my GPS to find the UnitID
4. Entered the UnitID into Garmin Unlock Generator. Ignore the GM XT device unlock code and the top Generate button.
5. Selected Map Product as Custom and entered the code given for the downloaded image file.
6. Hit the bottom create button to generate a 25 digit code.
7. Download Img2Gps and run
8. Click Load Folder to load the image file. Select the tick next to it.
9. Check the Use Unlock Key option and paste the 25 digit code in.
10. Load a blank SD card into your Garmin
11. Connect the Garmin to your PC using a USB cable. You should see two dirves in windows: one is the Garmin and the other is the "Removable Disk" SD card.
12. Create a folder called "Garmin" on the SD card
13. Select Folder/Card in Img2GPS
14. Click "Copy Maps". Select the folder /Garmin on the SD card. You may need to click copy again.
15. Upload will take a while.
16. You should now see a file GMAPSUPP.IMG on the SD card in the /Garmin directory.
17. Create a new text file called GMAPSUPP.UNL in the same directory (make sure it does not have a hidden .txt extension).
18 copy the 25 digit unlock key into this file.
19. Close the file.
20. Disconnect the Garmin.
21. On Startup it should load your original maps and the new ones.

First of all, the maps must be created and match the serial number of the GPS you will run it on. Next the maps must be transferred to the SD card in the directory /MAP_DATA The GPS always looks at this directory for any map.

Two possible answers and they are both dependable on the serial number of the map vs.the serial number of the GPS. The best solution is to use Vantage Point to do the transfer. The second method is to directly load the map to an SD card under the directory MAP_DATA and then place in the GPS. Then do a MENU>>VIEW>>MAPS and activate the map. If the map is missing you do not have it under the MAP_DATA directory. If the map shows a RED "X" then the serial number of the map is not the same as the serial number of the GPS.

You might have an sd card inserted that contains information that the unit doesn't recognize. This happened to me when I tried to fudge some old magellan destination maps onto the sd card...the format was wrong and the unit froze...gave me the message.

The device uses SD cards actually. They will not however work with TOPO maps or Bluechart. They are primarily for loading media or city street maps for other country's.

magellan has a big problem in the past with the Canada Value Pack. It did not work with the Triton. It was only made to work with the older Magellan GPS units.

Best to contact Magellan and see if they will give you a new one.

Any bluechart that has been preloaded on an SD card should work.  Did you purchase your chip with the data preloaded or did you download it yourself?  If you downloaded it yourself, try erasing the sd card, format it, then insert the blank card in the 420 and power it up. This somehow preps the chip for the data download.  Then download the bluechart onto the chip and try again.  There is some ambiguous wording in the download screen that makes it look like some kind of error, try the download anyway and most of the time it will work. After the download is complete it should list the bluechart software version on the screen along with some other software info.  If the operating system software is not v2.5 or higher, you may need to download a software update first.
