Printing Issue The printer roller is not picking up the paper. I have been unable to pull the black "guards" off to see what is going on behind it. The roller moves as though it will pick up paper, but does not. (I pulled the paper tray out and watched). There is a clicking noise associated with it. The black sensor flag is hanging down, but appears to be unattached from anything. Does that matter? Is it supposed to be attached to something? HELP PLEASE!!

Lexmark X4550 all-in-one Paper feeds only half way then jams

Frances;
I'm not Lexmark certified; however, paper motion fails are generic in nature. Paper motion fail can be a bit difficult to diagnose at a distance...
* If it jams at every sheet then check to insure there is not a bit-o-paper stuck from a previous jam.
* If it has been an issue that has been increasingly getting worse than I'd replace the pick-up roller(s)
* Lexmark's support page for your printer is below. (You can also find a service prover too)
* Parts order for your printer is also below. You can determine at the support page if your comfortable replacing pick-up rollers in that model printer.
support lexmark com Service Parts
Note:
* Frequently people tear a jammed sheet when it comes out leaving pieces behind. BAD! When you get a torn sheet in your printer insure you retrieve all the pieces. Those left behind guarantee a jam on your next try.
* Paper jams not caused by debris in the path or worn pick-up roller(s) is beyond user maintenance.

Manual feed won't grab paper

If the printer works good when it prints the envelopes/label one by one, I think it works normal (because the paper is not a standard paper).

MyHP psc 1315 printer scanner keeps saying im empty but it is filled to capacity with paper. what can i do

Hi chrisneil,

This issue is generally caused by dirty rollers. Dust, paper scraps, and grime build-up on the paper feed rollers can cause paper jams. Follow these steps to clean the paper feed rollers.

Step one: Clean the rollers

Gather the following materials:

1. A clean, lint-free cloth, or any cloth that will not come apart or leave fibers Distilled, filtered, or bottled water (tap water might damage the product) Clean, lint-free cotton swabs.

2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.

3. Press the tab on the left side of the rear access door, and then pull the door outward to remove it.

4. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with bottled or distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.

5. Press the cloth against the paper feed rollers, and then rotate them upward with your fingers. Apply a moderate amount of pressure to remove any dust or dirt build-up.

6. Locate the pick roller on the left side of the product below and behind the paper feed roller.

7. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cotton swab, and then use it to clean the pick roller.

8. Allow the rollers to dry for 10 or 15 minutes.

9. Check the rollers on the rear access door. Make sure that the rollers are not missing, that they turn easily, and that they are springy when you press them. If the rollers are damaged, replace the door.

10. Reattach the rear access door. Align the door pins with the slots on the right side of the rear of the product, and then push the door forward, snapping it into place.

11. Press the On/Resume button ( ) to turn on the product.

Step two: Print a self-test report

Print a self-test report. See the section on how to use these solutions at the beginning of this document.

If the self-test report does not print when slowly pushing the paper farther in , repeat the previous steps to clean the rollers again. If the issue continues after repeated cleaning, skip the next solution in this document, and then service the product. If the self-test report prints when slowly pushing the paper farther in , try printing the original document again. The paper might not have been loaded far enough into the product. If the issue is resolved, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the paper only feeds through the product when you slowly push it farther in , repeat the previous steps to clean the rollers again. If the issue continues after repeated cleaning, skip the next solution in this document, and then service the product.

If the self-test report prints , try printing the original document again. If the issue is resolved, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the self-test report prints, but the original document does not , continue to the next solution in this document. If the self-test report does not print , try printing the report again. Listen for the rubber paper-pick rollers; you should be able to hear them rotating. Then, try slowly pushing the paper farther in until the roller engages to pick up the paper. Be careful not to push the paper in too far, which can cause paper jams.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Samsung CLP-300 paper does not seem to be catching when printing?

Hi. Kelly,
I think the issue is the due to paper pick-up roller. When the rollers get dirty or worn-out, the printer fails to pick the paper, which results in paper jam etc.. So, remove the paper tray and toner cartridge and locate the paper pick up roller in the middle. Clean it with damp (with luke-warm water) and lint-free cloth. I hope this would fix the issue. If the Roller is damaged or worn out, it needs to be replaced.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!

My samsung printer is not picking up the sheets of paper correctly and they seem to be sticking on the roller

It could be a dirty pickup roller in printer. Found following advice from Samsung:

Printer will not feed the paper depends on following possibility.
  • Paper Type:
    • If surface of the paper is too smooth, pick-up roller will not feed the paper.
    • In such case, try with different type of paper.
  • Pick-up Roller:
    • If the rubber roller is worn out, it will not feed the paper from the tray. There is not enough friction to feed the paper.
    • Pull the paper tray out and clean the rubber roller.

Get E3 error but can not see any reason for the error. Have reset will clear the error but still no printing. The problem started while printing a page. The error was that the paper was jammed and would...

There's a hidden sensor lever under the white guides behind the platen roller. Either a scrap of paper is holding it up, or it could be bent from pulling out a jam. It is a black lever behind the platen roller slightly to the right of center. You may need a shop to repair.

Lexmark z517 paper in keep saying load paper when printing wont feed through please help

One common cause of paper feed issues is a build up of dust on the printer's rear paper feed roller. This roller consists of a plastic axle with one rubber roller on each side. This is located in the automatic sheet feeder and is referred to as the "Pick Roller." As dust builds up on the rubber rollers, they become less tacky and therefore unable to grab a single sheet of paper.

To prevent and/or cure this type of paper feed problem, these rubber rollers should be cleaned. Unplug the printer's power cord and remove the paper from the automatic sheet feeder. Locate the pick roller and clean the rubber wheels on the left and right with a cloth dampened with warm water (be sure there is no excess water on the cloth as it may drip into the machine). After these are free of any dust or ink build up, reload the paper and plug the power cord back in. The paper should then feed normally.

Next, I'd like you to attempt this printer self-test by following the steps given below:
1. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
2. Press and hold the button on the printer panel.
3. Reconnect the power cord and keep holding the button on the printer panel until the printer starts to pull paper.
4. The printer should now print a test page. Please note that the test is continuous. To stop the test, disconnect the power cord.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault.
