What system? my guess, is it is a laptop
and the HDD went dead, and will not boot? am i right?
if the HDD is dead, reseat it( remove, then put it back)
if still dead, does it spin up. ear to case,
No then it has no power, or is dead.
yes, then the BIOS must see it, unless dead.
if a lap top ? was it? did it have batteries? when it died.
and if those batteries are still good, will the HDD run off batteries
and not the line cord power pack.....
post, what system you have, name it and OS.

My coby netbook wont go to my login screen it stops after the coby screen and shows a blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner, how do i fix this?

As you mentioned, the cursor keeps blinking, this means that the system is not able to locate the hard disk so that it can start your operating system. Ensure that there is no disk in the CD/ DVD rom and open the bios by pressing F2, DEL, F10, or whatever key that is assigned to the bios. You can find this at the time the system starts. Enter the bios and restore the bios to default settings. After restoring the bios, save the settings and restart the system. This may resolve the issue.

The problem is that when u start the laptop it will come on but after some time it goes and yet the indicator light will still be on and nothing will respond again. its hp nc6000 laptop

Hi Sir_chiks,

I see that you are epxeriencing a no boot no video issue on your Laptop.

Have you tried power cycling the Laptop, turn the Laptop OFF then unhook the AC ADapeter remove the battery then press and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds this should drian way all the reamaining power from the systemboard. once the power cycling is done. reconenct the Adapter and the battery on the Laptop and try turning it ON again see if the machien will boot back into windows.

If still the issue is the same, try going into the BIOS of your Laptop see if it will boot to the BIOS.
If the system boots to BIOS set the BIOS to defaults tehn restart the machine, but if it does not boot inot the BIOS then there is something wrong porbably with the motherboard.

I hope that this few detail can help.

Have a nice day,

BIOS Beep Codes
Whenever a recoverable error occurs during POST, the BIOS displays an error message describing the problem. The BIOS also issues a beep code (one long tone followed by two short tones) during POST if the video configuration fails (a faulty video card or no card installed) or if an external ROM module does not properly checksum to zero.
An external ROM module (for example, a video BIOS) can also issue audible errors, usually consisting of one long tone followed by a series of short tones. For more information on the beep codes issued, check the documentation for that external device.
There are several POST routines that issue a POST terminal error and shut down the system if they fail. Before shutting down the system, the terminal-error handler issues a beep code signifying the test point error, writes the error to I/O port 80h, attempts to initialize the video and writes the error in the upper left corner of the screen (using both monochrome and color adapters).
If POST completes normally, the BIOS issues one short beep before passing control to the operating system.

When i turn on my laptop lights come on then it beeps twice tries to boot up beeps twice again then shuts off

Either you have a memory issue or operating system problem.

First, disconnect all cables. Be certain to dispel static electricity by touching metal. Remove the memory cover. Try reseating (removing and reinserting) your memory (try one module at a time to test).

If still a problem, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, all your updates will roll back to that date.

To access System Restore in Windows 7: Open the Start Menu. Click on All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and System Restore

Hope this helps.

Every time I open my pc,black screen displays. Then after the OS displays after that nothing. & after a minute it repeatedly displays the same. What' the problem with my pc?

The PC boot detection can be troubleshooted in stages.

I am just getting the process explained here. If your boot issue falls in any of the below said stages, Please do the needful as per the suggestion.

Stage: 1 When the Signal chip on the motherboard initialize the post operation and it checks for the Motherboard powersupply, baised on the Bios manufacturer you get a signal once the POST (Power on Self Test) finishes.

Suggession: If there is any problem at this point, the system hangs\or stops working as Bios wouldnt start its routines. You may have to contact a HW Engineer to find the solution.

Once the POST is done successfully, the Bios is initialised with the Routines to run a check on the motherboard, ports, devices attached and it inspects all chipsets and hardware details of the system.
This point you will see the tiny LE-diode flashing on keyboard and other attached devices. Cmos is loaded with the detailed HW information. As a heirarchy of inspecting the Hardware, it checks for the Audio first and then the Video chipset and status.
Any beep heard multiple or single long at this point could also be due to the failure of Display chipset or port or device. As the system cannot indicate the failure it uses audio. Here your VGA once detected it starts giving you either a non-graphic or graphic display of whats happening inside the system. (Boot process). Suggessions: Any issues at this stage needs to be fixed either on HW or Peripherals attache or finally on Bios if corrupt.

Once Bios routine is done the control transfers to a small program on Bios called bootstraploader which helps in finding the boot up files on the Active partition and initializing them. Here if it fails to find the boot files it shows the message usually known as "Non bootable disk"

Suggession: you can finalize understanding that the disk has no boot files or they are corrupt or the disk partition that has the boot files is not readable.

Suggession : 4: Once the windows starts loading and still it gets stuck at any point till you log on its all the OS files which plays its roles to get the system up. If there is a failure at this point, your OS is corrupt or has an issue. Suggession : Please do an OS Repair or at worst case and OS reinstallation. Hope this gives answers to your issue. Good Luck.

1. reset all bios to std
2. try one peice of ram at a time to see if occurs with each module
3. try new ram
4. update your bios (can also fix minor issues with windows)

colourfull post screens are usually a sign of dodgy ram
