I have a 42" vizio plasma tv. when I turn it on there is a red line going down the right side of the screen sometimes it will go away after a couple of minutes and sometimes it just stays there.
we have a 46" vizio HDTV, which we've had for about 8 months. we treat it very well, and don't move it around or let the kids touch it. we recently noticed a red line down the side of the screen, and a very very fine yellow line next to it. if we wiggle the top framing, it goes away sometimes, but alot of times it just stays. everytime we turn the tv on, it's back.

I would have a tech come out and look at it. Sometimes the ribbon connectors from the upper or lower buffer boards have poor or corroded contacts. Should'nt be a major deal since it comes and goes.

Line faults & possible causes to LCD & Plasma screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent. Faults to all LCD & Plasma screen are similar, irrespective of its brand and screen size..
POSSIBLE solution: We have the same problem on our 42" Vizio plasma screen. I've had many conversations with the tech at Vizio, and they said it's an inherent problem with the screen (whatever that means) that can't be fixed, or is not worth fixing (as another comment says).
But...when a cable guy came to install a new dish, I told him about it, and he said he's seen it before on other plasmas, and that it may be caused by the sound speakers being placed either too near or in the wrong position near the tv.
He said there are magnets in the speakers that will throw off something in the screen.
We have a Bose sound system, and so we tried repositioning the speakers and subwoofer. The line did go away, but then came back. It comes and goes.
Who can figure this out? Well, for what it's worth, try repositioning your sound speakers.
I had the same problem -red, vertical bars along the right side of my Samsung 42" Plasma- and this is what fixed it: Removed unterminated cable.
I had hooked up an HD video camera to the set about two weeks ago. While I disconnected the camera I left the other end of the connector cable plugged into the T.V.. As I've since learned from friends who work in television, this is what's called an "unterminated cable" -meaning one end is unconnected. It can lead to problems with electrical interference and appears to have been the problem in this case; When I disconnected this cable from the T.V. the red bars went away.
So, check your cables. Make sure everything is properly connected and get rid of anything that might be picking up interference.
Hope this makes sense.
