Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder...memory full problem

I have a Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder.
The recorder has 5 empty folders but will not let me record.  The recorder responds w/ "Memory Full" when I attempt to record.
I've successfully used this recorder for approx 2 months...recording, moving recorded files to iTunes, etc.  The folders are empty...no files present.
There doesn't appear to be a way to reset or reformat the device.
Any suggestions??
I also have a similar problem, where I deleted files by dragging them to the recycle bin on a Mac.  The files aren't present on the recorder, but the space is still taken up on it.  So I need to reformat it. Any suggestions??
My model is ICD-UX71F Sony

I solved the problem by connecting my Sony IC Recorder to the USB port on my McBook Pro computer and then emptying the trash can on the Mac computer. Visually (flashing red indicator light) and audibly (the recorder's sound that indicates something being erased), it was clear that mp3 files were finally, really being erased on the Sony recorder even though the recorder's own screen display had previously shown only empty folders and no files. Dragging files to the trash can doesn't really erase them unless you also empty the trash. All dragging to the trash can does is somehow mark the files in a way that, unfortunately, makes them invisible to Sony's file detection system.

What wire or charger did you use? I can not find one if one came with mine? What do the ends look like? I have an HP laptop and my voice recorder will not turn on. Is it possible to charge it to the wall or computer and if so where do I get the right connection? Does the one end go into where the headset small round opening is or the microphone opening?

Here are some recovery software you may rely on. Both programs can recover photos, videos and audio.

Photo Video Audio Recovery Software (for Windows)

Be careful: Before your items are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the device in case the original files(your audios) are overwritten.

Sony ICD-UX70 Voice Recorder freezes when load bar gets near end.

The same problem happened on mine twice. I just had to change the batteries, turn DPC off, and play with the buttons, press STOP, PLAY and STOP until the freezing has stopped. Then it will prompt you to set the time and date. Hope that helps :)

Sony ICD-UX70/UX80 digital recorder...memory full problem

If you press and hold down the "menu" button scroll down to the FORMAT selection and press enter. This will reformat the device.
I had the same problem - I think it arose after disconnecting the IC Recorder when it became unresponsive with the computer.
Make sure you transfer all your files first to a computer or back up source.
