There's no test equipment for DLP lamps. The only way to test the lamp is with a working projector. I am a Tech many times, I can tell by a visual inspection.
If you purchased a cheap lamp, or from someone beside a Sanyo dealer then, you may have a bad lamp.

It is printed on the side of the box that the projector came in or there is a label on the bottom of the projector. It is near the bottom of the label, and it reads "Serial No." This should take care of finding it unless the box is thrown away and someone has peeled the label off.
