Question about Audiovox ACC56 10-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

Cd changer connections

I went to the swap and got a great deal on a prestige 10 disc changer. It is fm modulated and only has three wires to hook up from the controlls. One is black ( ground ) I know that much. The other two wires are a Green/white and an Orange/White. My question is where do these wires connect. I dont want to hook them up wrong even if the unit is working. If someone knows the connection for these wires I would really be thankful for the information. On The modulator it says Prestige P-165/P-185 Part # cdc8fm These are the only numbers on the unit and its built by Audiovox. Who ever helps me with this I want to say thanks for your time and Rock on!!!! Thanks to all you Guru's out there!!!

    Benimur,
Thanks for the help I appreciate your time. One question because I dont have the knowledge that you do. What do you mean by filter? Is this a solid state component that I wire into or is this a inductor / capacitor configuration that I need to buy at the stereo store? If this is a configuration, What values of inductance and capacitance do I need? Im trying not to over think this whole thing and make it more complicated than it needs to be, but Im sure you can appreciate my concerns. Nothing worse than poppin speakers and a bunch of static!
    Thanks again Bro!

Hi, On your Audiovox ACC56 10-Disc CD Changer with a Prestige P-165/P-185 FM Modulator, the wires: black - goes to the body (-) ground (as you correctly posted); Green/white - (with a small filter box) goes to the constant/always on 12V supply such as the + terminal of your battery Orange/White - should be connected to a switched power source such as the accessory terminal of your ignition switch or to the blue or yellow wire of your head unit or car stereo or whatever wire that will have 12V+ only when the head unit or car stereo is switched on. Hope this be of some help to you. Post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

Alternatively, some installers just wire the Orange/White to a separate toggle switch with the other terminal of the switch going to the accessory terminal/wire of the ignition switch.

    Cheers.

    Hi again Thunderhorse,

There is no need to purchase a separate filter. Normally it is already built into the wiring (Green/white) before entering the RF Modulator box. In some instances this could be just a small coil (you are right about the inductor) covered by a hard plastic casing which can be cylindrical or rectangular or a heatshrink wrap. If not present unit should still work even without.

    Cheers.

Will the Audiovox SP-6cds hook to an Audiovox GM250 radio?

Yes - the radio has cd changer controllers.
The Changer is FM modulated - and the radio becomes the controller.

I HAVE A KD MK88 JVC 12 DISC COMPACT DISC CHANGER FOR A CAR AND DON'T KNOW WHAT CHANNEL IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ON TO GET IT TO WORK AND NOT SURE IF THERE ARE ANY POWER LIGHTS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON

there are no lights on the changer. It has to be hooked up to a power wire(4-pins) and a controller that is mounted in/on the dashboard with a fm-modulator connected thru the radio antenna. You also need a jvc hand-held remote to turn it on/off and select the cds.

I just bought a new car that has a xtreme sound 10 disc changer.

If the fm modulator is wired correctly, open door on changer and push small reset button at the bottom (unit must have power to changer).
