CE stands for Clear Entry. It clears the number that one just entered. To clear the results of a previous calculation use the key AC, if calculator has one. Otherwise try pressing the CE key twice or enter 0, because that is what the clear button will do.

SOURCE: Sharp EL-2630GII Error on display
Unable to locate a manual for this specific model, but if you go to http://www.sharp.ca/manuals/, you will find one for an EL2630-P, PII, and PIII. The functions are very similar and should give you the detail that you need. Generally there will be a reset button (likely on the bottom of the machine), which often must be pushed in using a ballpoint pen or similar implement, if no other routine clear or reset procedure (such as turning off and back on) is working.
Please post back if you need more help, otherwise thank you for using and rating FixYa!

Usually answered in minutes!
That wasn't very clear. The CE button clears the numbers from the screen but when I punch in other numbers, it calculates with the number I thought I had cleared.
Newer calculators have an ANS memory where the last result is saved. If you clear a number then press an operation key without entering a number first, the calculator uses the value saved in ANS memor
eg.
5+10=15 [press CE button] 2+ (17 APPEARS) The only way I find to truly clear is to turn unit off then back on. Is there a setting I can change? THank you in advance for your help!
i was having the same issue until i found that the * button on the far left at the bottom is what does the complete clear to start a new count.
