Question about Canon MultiPASS MP730 All-In-One InkJet Printer

MP730 fax issue-can't receive fax, but can send out

Hello, I have read and read the manual on how to set up the printer/fax to receive faxes but am unable to make it work. We have a combo (all in one) phone/answering machine phone line attached to the printer. I've tried various ways in the manual to get it to work ie: manual mode, ans machine mode etc. Nothing will work. Is there a external device needed? Someone said I might need an answering machine that is just a answering machine and then a seperate phone or phone line. I am trying the best/cheapest way to resolve this without calling the phone company and having them come out. Please help me if you can. Thank you so much. Leslie

recently my canon mp730 has been playing up: It can send faxes but not receive? i have 2 phone lines. I have recently moved house as well and now have a new fax no.

    Can you help?

I too have not been able to receive faxes with my MP-730. Funny thing is--I just downloaded the user manual and it has a section on sending faxes but no parallel section on receiving them. This leads me to believe that this "all-in-one" machine may be missing a crucial function.

Has anyone EVER been able to receive faxes with this machine?

    Jo

I think I know why. You need to set the proper priority of your all-in-one Canon device.
If it is TEL priority, it means you need to have a phone connected to the fax. If the phone rings, you need to pick up the handset and check if it's a fax tone or a call. If it is fax tone, you wait for 5 secs til fax tone stops, and then hang up. After that you will receive the fax. Failure to pick up the handset will not allow you to receive the fax. This might be the most probable setting you have, hence you can't receive the fax.
If it is FAX priority, the same thing happens as TEL priority. Only difference is if you don't pick up, and it is a fax, it will still receive.
You can also do FAX only. No need to connect a phone. Device will receive automatically.

Good day! I have a Canon MX-328. I was expecting to receive a fax so I read the manual and I set my printer to Tel priority mode since we only have one phone line mostly for voice calls. According to...

Hello.
You have explained your question with very good detail
Press the colour button, then hang up. Most faxes are capable of transmitting colour faxes, and you should press the colour because even if the sender sends a B&W Fax, it will Automatically receive it in B&W. If they send a colour fax and you hit the B&W Button, it will only receive in B&W.
I hope this helps, if so please rate this answer below Thank You for supporting the FixYa Community

Unable to send and receive fax from hp 3050 series

check the phone line is properly connected and you are getting dial tone and dialing facility from the phone line which is connectd to fax line.go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set.

Able to send faxes but unable to receive faxes.

You probably have to set something up in your settings.

Usually this goes: Settings>Fax Setup>Receive

Of course, this is generic, and all Fax machines are different. Is there a model number?

Able to send faxes but unable to receive.

you need to check how the fax machine is setup for receiving faxes. i recommend you try it first without the answering machine, to see if it works. if it doesnt, then it has to do with the auto answer or the number of rings not set right, if it does work, it could be that you need to set it to check for fax while the answering machine is answering, check the manual under answering faxes.
thanks adi

Unable to receive fax from HP LaserJet 3050

Hello,

Please make sure the machine is set for auto-receive in machine set up and make sure the phone cord is plugged into the line jack on the machine. If this machine is not on a dedicated phone line the machine (rings) should be set to pick up before the answering machine does.

Fax problem

Check your preference settings and make sure the fax is set to receive faxes (my friends has 6 different settings) Your manual should tell you how to do this. The default is different for many fax machines.
