Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 will not start up...lights come on but no power up???
This seems to be a common problem but I do not see a common answer. However, when I turn my laptop on the power button will light up and the LED's on the front will come on, but there is nothing on the screen (remains dark)..plus the fan comes on but in 5 seconds or less the fan stops, the unit stops "booting" at that point and the leds's and blue power button remain on.
Occasionally (maybe 1 out of 100 times) it will power up but it seems that the few times it did come on I moved it and it went of...but one of the times it was on I shook it a bit to try and determine if a loose wire was the cause and I figured it would cut off when I moved it but it did not????????? I am strapped here...out of warranty, no close service experts, nothing...any help would be A-1.
thanks in advance-rick

Re: Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 will not start...
Toshiba extended the warranty of the M35 till Nov. of this year for this same problem. If you just contact Toshiba support, they'll rplace the board no charge.
I've had a few repaired. They only take a few days.
Several model Toshibas had this problem includint M35X and M75X. There is a small power chip under the top cover bezel(above keyboard) that overheats and comes off the MB. Some say heating it will reseat the IC but others replace the board. It is a design flaw that is why Toshiba extended the warranty. Good Luck!

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED lightup? If not then -
The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty.
Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.
Power and OPC LED lights flashes?Common on Sharp LCD tv.Tv is still useable.Tv have Tuner signal board problems.Every times Power and OPC LED lights flashes.Just push the remote power button again and wait.Sometimes Power and OPC LED light will flashes require push power again wait again Power and OPC will flashes two or three time push power button and wait.Must do this two or three time before the backlight will light up and tv work.
Unplug your battery and then plug in AC adaptor and see if laptop powers on. I assume you power button doesnt turn on at all? If so, your motherboard seems to have a power issue. Unfortunately, you have to replace motherboard. If laptop. powers on withour battery then you then battery needs replacement.
When you say charge light, was that the battery led light that you were referring to or the power button?
If it is the battery led light, try this:
Try to power on your laptop without the battery in your laptop.
take out the battery and just use the ac adapter, if it works fine then there could be a problem with your battery.
If is the power button that is flashing orange, then try to power cycle laptop.
turn off laptop.
take out the battery and the ac adapter.
then while those are out, you hold down power button for atleast 10-15 seconds.
put back the power source and check the led again.
A coworker used to work for Toshiba and said that this is common for the Satellite A135 models and under warranty the fix was a motherboard swap for a newer/updated motherboard. Otherwise the unit is unusable.
