I just got this server with no software. I have W2K server to load but I am missing IBM start up disk needed to to configure drives etc before loading W2K server. I have looked all over the web & IBM site , called them but they want $200US/hr 2 hr min. which is just ridiculous. Of course they want the serial of server & where it is now but won't help you by pointing you in right direction. Got any ideas? Thanks:)
The disk that comes with the machine is called the NOS in the manual. It is also known as ServerGuide 6.0.3 which will config your Netfinity up to Win2000 Server. I used ServerGuide 7.3.06 to install Windows 2003 Server. The latest version (IBM ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD v7.4.17) is on the support IBM web site:
Boot the server with a WIN98SE/ME boot disk to get started.
Go to IBM's support web site and down load the bios flash if you think you need it. Once WIN98 sets up the ramdisk in memory you can flash the bios if needed. All I did to start mine was use the boot disk to get to the cd drive and W2K server did the rest.

It is certainly not ok for it to take so long to show bios.
This usually means there is a hardware conflict at low level (not a broken part)
This can occur if there is more than one disk that it has to look at that it cannot work out (this may be in your case)
you may want to start the system with only one disk in and get i runing from there before adding extra storage.
The error message you are receiving "Inquiry command failed Using IBM-PC ServerRaid Host adapter" makes me think you are attaching the tape drive to the ServerRaid Controller, which is only for Hard Disks. There should be a normal SCSI interface for attaching tape drives, etc. It's possible that the ServerRaid card is a PCI (or older) plug in card, and the normal SCSI interface will be on the main motherboard. If you look on the IBM website for the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it should hopefully make things clearer.
The reason you may not be seeing the hard drives in CMOS, is because you will need to use the IBM ServerRaid Utility to view and configure the disks.
I had the same problem.
There is a cd that came with the server called "IBM RAID Support" that is a must have to reconfigure the hard drives.
It took me a week to find the ISO image.
I will upload the cd via FTP and send you the link.
Hi , if your dont have any data, try to get the IBM Netfinity CD for 4000r which supporting the OS 2003. Usually IBM provide a cd on each NEtfinity server. Check on the IBM website for more details about your Server Compatibility on 2003 server.
then proceed to re-intalled the OS.
