My playstation 3 is two years old and suddenly stopped reading disks. I used a dvd dr to clean the blu ray lens and still nothing. I can get a game to load temporarily but then will freeze after 30 seconds or so.

First make sure the DVD is not scratched or dirty. Get a cleaning kit and use it to clean the laser off inside your PS3. If it won't work after you clean the CD/DVD then your Blu-Ray Diode has burned out (a very common problem with the PS3). The PlayStation 3 uses two different lasers to read a disc. One of the lasers inside is used for standard DVD's and CD's and the other one is used strictly for playing Blu-Ray. The only way to fix your PS3 at this point is to replace that Blue Ray laser lens. If you do not have electronic repair knowledge I would recommend paying the $150 to have Sony replace it. Your PS3 is under warranty for one year from the purchase date.
ok try doing a format and if that doesnt work then go get a new laser because games and blu ray take more power to work so the lens cant give that much anymore
This is unfortunately due to the Blu Ray lens developing a fault within the disk drive or becoming dirty. Usually it will still play DVD's but not Blu Ray discs or games. You could try a laser lens cleaning disc but 9 times out of 10 this doesnt usually work. I am guessing this is the new PS3 slim model you have trouble with, which I am pretty sure are still under a year old from launch date. In which case I would give Sony a ring as this should still be under warranty. They should offer you a replacement free of charge.
it could be that your blu-ray lens is dirty (the easiest fix) try cleaning it with disk cleaner... or if u know how opening up ur system and cleaning the lense physically... if that didn't work it could be that ur blu-ray might be dead...
go to www.modchipman.com for repairs it has exactly what your talking about i used them for my 2 360 repairs and they turned my ps3 backwards compatible. =)
The dvd laser portion of the blu-ray drive went out.
They only last 1-3 years with average
use. If your PS3 is less than a year old and you still have the
original receipt Sony will repair the problem for free. Otherwise
they're going to charge you $150 for the repair. You can reach them at:
1-800-345-SONY
Unless you have a technical background in
electronics there's nothing I would suggest doing. A firmware update
and or CD /DVD cleaner disk will do nothing for your problem. I've
fixed more than 100 PS3's with this exact problem so I know exactly
what I'm talking about.
