I have a DMR-EZ48V VCR/DVD recorder. During recording mode there is a considerable amount of static, as well as playback of these recordings. Playback of previously recorded material, and standard DVDs is normal. This is an issue that just started after years of flawless recording/playing. I tried changing all the cables, but that does not seem to be the problem.

Is this when recording from VHS to DVD? Have you cleaned the VHS tape heads recently? You can get cleaning tapes for this purpose.

SOURCE: Static in playback of VCR on Panasonic DMR -EZ47V DVD/ VCR combo.

First make sure the cable on the back has the center pin and its in nice and tight.I would also try another VCR on the same line that way you can eliminate that first. Then if that doesn't show a problem it maybe a internal problem with a lose solder joint. Also I was wonder does the horizontal lines appear when you use a prerecorded tape.If it does you may need to clean your heads on the VCR.

Panasonic DMR-ES30V DVD / VCR Combo Recorder - where can I buy another? If I have to buy latest model, will it finalise DVD's made on the above model?

You may be able to find an identical model for this combo unit on eBay or similar, otherwise if you do end up purchasing a new unit (for example a DMR-EZ48V which is a Panasonic) - you cannot finalise discs recorded on one model in a different one, and I doubt you would be able to even on an identical model, since there would be variations in their digital control circuitry.

This is why recorded DVDs must be finalised in the drive they were written in to enable compatible playback in standard players. You cannot change recording models or drives prior to finalising.

Hi there, You shouldn't have to turn on the DVD to view the TV only. But if you have it in AV1 mode or DVD then you will, coz it's trying to operate thru the DVD unit. Hope this helps, tho it's been a while since you asked?
