I think I have the answer.

On Yahoo Answers Blue Rizla Girl put up the idea that the sensor is some form of hydrometer. (i.e. floats in salty water sinks if not salty enough)

Based on this thought I postulated that the sensor is some form of hydrometer float in a tube with perhaps an optical sensor.

If this is correct why is it not working?

Is it because the float is stuck at the bottom of the tube, perhaps by some food debris? If so how can we fix it?

This is what I did on my Hotpoint FWD60:-

I took the salt filler cap off. There was no salt in the reservoir as it has been a problem for months, and I was only refilling it when dishes were not coming clean.

I poured 2 litres of hot water into the salt reservoir.

I then put the empty machine on the intensive 65 degree wash, half load and with the reservoir cap still OFF.

When finished I filled up with salt and HEY PRESTO the salt light is OFF!!!!

Just hope it stays that way until the reservoir really needs refilling.

While I was down on my hands and knees I took the opportunity to clean the filters in the sump. They do get full of bits!

I also flushed the sump by dashing a couple of cups of hot water into it and then bailing it out with a small yoghurt pot. I repeated this until the water in the yoghurt pot and the sump no longer had any signs of bits in them. (Dashing = vigorously pour)

I was amazed at how many bits I got out, especially considering I had given the machine a good clean in the past 6 weeks.

I even got part of a paper label!

So there we have it, try it out and report back.

Have a hotpoint aquarius dishwasher Won't work powers up Red light comes on with salt 2 nd red light come on showing X What is the X? Please

Here's what you can do to address this issue:
  1. Check the Salt Level: Ensure that the salt reservoir is filled with dishwasher salt. The dishwasher needs salt to soften the water and improve the cleaning performance. If the salt level is low or empty, refill the reservoir with dishwasher salt.
  2. Check the Salt Dispenser Cap: Make sure that the salt dispenser cap is securely closed. If it's not closed properly, it can cause the "X" symbol to appear on the display.
  3. Reset the Dishwasher: Try resetting the dishwasher by turning it off at the mains power supply for a few minutes, then turning it back on. This can sometimes clear error codes and restore normal operation.
  4. Check for Blockages: Ensure that the salt dispenser and its inlet are free from any blockages or obstructions that could prevent salt from dissolving properly.
  5. Consult the Manual: If the issue persists, refer to the dishwasher's user manual for troubleshooting steps specific to your model. The manual may provide additional information about error codes and how to resolve them.
If none of these steps resolve the issue and the "X" symbol continues to appear on the display, it may indicate a more significant problem with the dishwasher that requires professional diagnosis and repair. In such cases, contacting Hotpoint customer service or a qualified appliance technician for assistance is recommended.

Beko dishwasher light stays on when I have put salt in

Unfortunately, sounds like either the softener (there is an internal monitoring float) or the pcb (which monitors the float switch position) is at fault. Quite often these faults are more costly than replacing the machine. If you remember to top the salt up once a week, then the machine should continue to operate, as the salt indicator is only an indicator for you to top up.

Matsui MF160 door tension is still strong after adjustment. Program cycle takes 150mins

Time consumption depends on the cycle chosen. For a full complete wash 150 mts is ok.

Also check whether water flow to your machine is free from clogging! Check the strainer attched to the water whose connecting junction.

We have a matsui mf160 dishwashwasher and it is struggling to get items clean - esp greasy items - i have also noticed it is not hot at the end of the cycle so i think the problem is there is no hot water....

The dishwasher's heater is likely shot. Get a new heating element. The same heater drys and the end but also heats the hot water during the wash cycle. No hot water = dirty dishes.

Matsui mf160 starts its wash cycle and timer stops

on most machines, the timer will not run if the water is not up to temp. if the inside is plenty hot mid-cycle, then your heating element is probably good. it is the thermometer that needs located and checked. if the inside is not steamy, then your heating element is the most likely culprit.
don't hate your dishwasher. it just wants to make sure that you get a full wash cycle at a hot enough temp. to get the dishes clean. good luck

Matsui dishwasher mf160

I used the solution I found for a slightly different fault, ( this was the same fault but without the bleebs)
switch off mains and turn off water. Then disconnect water pipe and lay machine on it's back. Switch on electrics, and allow water to run out. Switch off electrics and stand machine up .Reconnect everything and hey presto I can hear two good things, the machine gently humming, and my wife telling me what a genius I am !!

Matsui MF145 beeping continuously

You might want to check the salt and rinse levels on your dishwasher.
Ours was doing the exact same thing and we refilled the dishwasher salt and it worked again. Unscrew the plastic thing on the bottom of the dishwasher and fill it up with about 1 kilo of dishwasher salt, water will flow out when you do this and you can put at least 2 kilos in.
Hope that helps xxx
