The picture is shifted to one side. I have tried the menu and when I try to adjust the image the television freezes up and the only way to regain control is to shut it down. So how do I get the picture to be centered again?

It sounds that the software loaded has been corrupted by anyway. If so, a software update might be necessary. If you wish to get more details, check this link. It has details about software upgrade. Go through it, and if you're confident, do a software update. If not, contact any service technician. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

How do i fix the color on a mitsubishi television?

That depends on what type and model the tv is. Usually this is done from the menu - by adjusting the Tint option from the Image (or Picture) section in the menu. If the tv is old and the image shift is caused by ageing then you must either open it and adjust the the video final transistors by hand or access the secret service menu and do it from there.

The problem I am having is that my 32' Sony Wega kv32fs12 Trinitron television will work almost perfectly. Image color is beautiful. tuners seem to be working like a charm, but the screen has a slight...

Picture alignments made in servive menu.

pwr off + display + 5 + (+vol) + pwr on
You must do all within 1 second.
1&4 move thru settings, 6&3 chg value,
muting & enter saves chgs.

Your code access could differ.

In the menu note down all existing settings.
Make small adjustments and watch what happens if not in right direction reset that particular option to original value before you changed. In those menus you can bend, shift hor. and vert., etc.
But be warned only slight adjustments and write down start values before experimenting. Or you can get in to serious trouble.

Good secret service menues keep an access counter for manufacturer/dealer to see how many times it was used.

4.14.1 Understanding Viewing Features
Your LCD HDTV features four viewing modes and Picture-In-Picture (PIP)/Picture-by-Picture (POP) mode.
You can switch viewing modes using the remote control.
4.14.2 Viewing Modes
Normal Mode
The original 4:3 aspect ratio (1.33:1 source) is preserved, so black bars are
added to the left and right of the display image. Standard TV broadcasts are
displayed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Movies in 4:3 Aspect Ratio may be referred
to as pan-and-scan or full frame. These movies were originally filmed in 16:9
(widescreen), and then modified to fit a traditional TV screen (4:3).
Wide Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full-frame movie in this mode,
the display image is stretched proportionately to fill the TV screen.
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1 source) program or movie, the
display image fills the TV screen. If you are watching a widescreen
(1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source) program or movie, there will still be black
bars at the top and bottom.
Zoom Mode
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1, 1.85:1, or 2.35:1 source)
program or movie, the display image is zoomed proportionally to fill the
width of the screen. The top and bottom are cut off to remove most of
the source material’s black bars. This mode is good for programs or
movies with sub-titles.
Panoramic Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full frame movie in this mode,
the 4:3 Aspect Ratio (1.33:1 source) display image is stretched
horizontally on the left and right sides to fill the TV screen. The center
of the image is not stretched.

Note: Viewing modes are saved based on input. For example, you lasted watched a DVD in widescreen
mode and then watched TV in standard mode. When you switch back to DVD input, the viewing mode
will return to widescreen.
