I have a JVC music system (CA-S20BK)which is working perfectly except for the cd player. When a cd is inserted into the player the cd door closes ok but the cd does not rotate in the system and a "no disc" message comes up in the display. I have tried cleaning the optic but to no avail. Any bright ideas?
Take off the cover and look at the unit from the rear. Just below the lens there is a component with a yellow cross head. I have just fixed this problem by giving this a slight adjustment (maybe 1/10 of a turn) counter clockwise. So far so good. Hope it works for somebody else.

The player is recognizing that a CD has been inserted but is not able to read it.
Sometimes the lens assembly becomes contaminated and obscures the laser. I'd try using a commercial "lens cleaning CD" two or three times and then try a CD again. These lens cleaning CD's are widely available. If cleaning does not help, the player need professional service.
the tray should have a micro switch to touch when its closed. maybe it needs some fine adjustment. if it doesnt say closed then the laser drive wont start. or maybe the magnetic clamp hasnt come down onto the disc properly
Make sure that the CD-R you're using is a "Digital Audio" CD-R. The distinction is marked on the packaging and on the disc. The packaging usually says "Music CD-R." The JVC XL-R5010 won't take data discs to burn music.
