Hey guys looking at buying an suburu forester 05-06 xt but when i took it for a test drive the engine light was on the owner said its on because the cruise control doesn't work is this true and how much...

This is a guess............. A nonfunctioning cruise control probably would not cause the check engine light to come on , however what ever is causing the check engine light to come on could be stoping the cruise control from working. Is the car a good deal ? Check engine light could be just about anything , even a loose gas cap. What you need to do is use the known problems to get the price down a bit , and then take the vehicle to a mechanic to scan for error codes. The codes tell him which part to replace. More often then not , the repairs are not too expensive.

I have a HP pavilion m7480 that Im having problems with. It started with it not booting, just having a black screen. I took out the ram, blew it off, reinserted it and it booted up, windows started, but...

i looks like you are working with the wrong part the problem here seems to be the hard drive and not the ram.
i believe the hard drive is damaged and needs replacement if you can move the hdd and connect it to another computer as slave would see it it is working or not

Passenger side wiper stopes working linkage arm keeps coming of spline. its on a fiat punto 54 plate.

I had this problem about 18 months ago. I took it to a garage and was advised that the entire wiper motor and linkage arms needed to be replaced quoting approx. £175.00. Instead I took it home, took it all apart and found a washer that was slightly too small to fit on the end of the ball, hit it hard with a hammer thus jamming it on. It hasn't come off once since. Total cost approx. £0.30 and 30 minutes of my own time...

Recognising floppy disk drive type on DS10

the Only VMS post on fixya ever.
wow. from the dark ages of DEC. VMS. OS.

sounds like you are 42 years behind the upgrade curve too...
i used to work on all DEC systems. so know that . 1975
the DS10, is now 18 years old.

here is a relic manual, on that

http://zzz.physics.umn.edu/_media/computing/department/ds10-cr.pdf

is this your only DS10, of not try the drive on system #2?
ahh its now called OPENVMS,, amazing thing that is.

open vms was ported to ALph chips. 1992
then 2001 port of OpenVMS to the Intel Itanium architecture
so it's an 17 year old OS.

get HP proliant Server G7 up. and win. for sure.

DS10 with SBS PCI Expansion

Version 7.1-2 is an older version of the OS. I will have to check, but I think that V7.2 will resolve this. What version of TCP/IP are you using? Back in the day when I supported TCP and VMS, there were some timing issues that causes odd behavior. If you can provide the details about your configuration, I can check and get back to you. If necessary, an examination of a forced crashdump may be needed.

A rare opportunity to work with VMS again!!

Good stuff.

Problems with booting

for any new hard disk first you have to create a partition table. Usually this is done when installing the OS. eg: for win98 you have to first create the partition in dos, format it, then run win98 setup. Now in WinXP this can be done when installing the OS. Similarly you may have to create the partition before runing UNIX setup. I Dont know the installation for UNIX. Usually the hard disk manufacturer supplies with some utility to do the partition. Like Disk Manager from Seagate.
