How do install mapping to my device with MapInstall

I have a nuvi 1390. I am able to change the state to Michigan but I can't get any cities to come up. Search all comes up with nothing. I put in the address & street and get nothing.

It sounds like you installed a smaller portion of maps that does not include Michigan. check this screen:
tools
settings
Map
Map Info (at the bottom)
it will probably say CN North America 2015.1
Lower 49 SW or NW or SE or NE. those are SouthWest NorthWest, etc

buy a 4 or 8 GB micro SD card and run the update again, this time tell Garmin Express to change the Coverage and it will give the memory card all the maps you need

Garmin 1450 won't pick up states in gps

Make sure you didn't just install a portion of the maps. try re-Loading the maps from the Garmin Express program, then check the map info screen by pressing Tools>Settings>Map> Map Info
it should say something like CN North America NT 2015.10, then all, or lower 49 or lower 49 NE (north east) etc

After we updated nuvi 50 it does not recognize south and North Carolina,Florida,Alabama or Georgia why?

Most likely because the newest maps are too large to fit on your device now. If you go to settings maps then my maps it will probably say lower 49 NW (north west) or NE (North East). Just buy a 4 or 8gb micro SD Memory card, stick it in the unit and run the update again but tell the program to change the coverage.

I was trying to update my map on my nuvi 1350 and it said the internal memory was full. i tried to clear up some space and i ended up deleting some folders. I did back it all up, but now it won't let me...

The only files you should delete are unused voice files (.vpm), pictures files (.jpg), sum files (.sum) and you can delete the gupdate.gcd file as it is not used once the unit has been updated. You can also delete archived gpx files (.gpx) within the gpx archive folder but do not delete the current.gpx file (this file holds your favorites) or the gpx folder. Deleting folders is not recommended. That is a good way to delete files that you may need.

You can also right click on the Nuvi's drive letter and select "tools" and run an error check on the flash drive to make sure there aren't any errors on it that may involve how much space is really free.

Lastly, you may have to limit the map region, so that the map isn't too large. For example, instead of having US & Canada on the map, perhaps only have the US with the lower 49 states. You can limit it even further by selecting lower 49 states and selecting regions like Southwest (SW) or northwest (NW) etc.

f you really want to bypass the whole memory issue, just put the map on an external micro 4GB SD card. This way, you don't have to worry about deleting anything off of the flash drive.

I hope this info helps.

Garmin nuvi

Take a look at what map is on your unit. Press the wrench/tools icon on the main menu, then the map icon, then the map info button. Most likely, you do not have all of the states in the map and probably a limited region like lower 49 states, southwest or lower 49 states, northwest, etc. You will need to download the full US map. However be aware a full map may not fit on your unit and may have to put the map on an external SD card.

Garmin nuvi 350

You may not have a complete US map on the unit. You may only have the NW SE OR NE states. AT the main menu, press the wrench/tools button, then the map icon and then the map info button. What does it say?

Garmin nuvi 200w can't update all 49 lower states

OK, I just finally am getting through all of this myself.

First, the bad news. You cannot load all of the lower 49 states onto your Garmin 200W as-is. The map file is over 1GB and the 200W only has 991MBs of memory.

So, go out and get yourself a SD card. I got a 2GB card at OfficeDepot for $8. It was at the counter, not back with the other cards they carry (Note: The speed showed as 60x. The slightly more expensive ones, $12-$15, may be faster, like 150x.)

You'll also need to get yourself MapInstall, available from the Garmin site. BUT, don't try to use this right away, a mistake I made. If you do, you basically get a message that MapInstall can't be installed because it's not already installed. Seriously.

BUT, MapInstall GETS installed, or whatever, when you load your 2010 maps (or partial maps), so after you do your partial install, THEN you can install the MapInstall program. (May not be necessary, but remember, I did this out of order. Look for a "Garmin" folder under your Programs, or All Programs, and see if it's already there after you install your 2010 maps.)

Next, run MapInstall. The next mistake I made was that at the window where it finds your device, I clicked on the NEXT button. DON'T. Notice that your device is shown in a drop-down box. Click on that, and you can select your SD card for the destination.

THEN click NEXT. On my system, it appears as if it shows you what IS already on the 200W, and lets you select whatever you want to add. I put everything else available on the SD card.

I just this minute finished loading "the rest" and checked it out. Works flawlessly. I easily found a seafood restaraunt in Anchorage (Alaska was not loaded in the intitial install.)

Just remember that you have to keep the SD card in the Garmin at all times to use those maps. That really shouldn't be a problem though.

Hope this helps eveyone.

GARMIN NUVI 200 SAYS NO DETAILED MAPS FOUND THAT SUPPORT ROUTING

I had the same problem. What you do is place your finger in the lower right corner where the green button would be and cut it on. When the prompt comes up, click yes. when the no detailed maps comes up again, hold down the green button again. You should then be able to upload the maps.

Garmin nuvi 200w map update 2009

Delete all the vehicles and voices that you don't use as well.

Btw, beware that the "City Navigator Lower 49 States+PR NT 2010.10, Deluxe, Apr 09" for nuvi 200/205 is BUSTED, it probably will not work (I just spent 2+hrs on the phone with garmin tech support to fix it.) Search these forums for "nuvi 205 no detailed maps" for more details.
