I have a remote which doesn't work anymore. (20 year old sony LBT-V502 hifi installation and it's standard RM-S530 remote.) What can I do? is it possible to buy a new one?

That is really old. Once you have tried fresh batteries there is not much more to do.

Amazingly there is one for auction on eBay. Good luck. Personally though, I would not buy it used at that price, I'd get a nice new hifi, maybe DAB radio,
