1. If you are printing using postscript driver, try using PCL6 - printout would be darker for grey scaled items.

2. Print in lower resolution 600dpi or 300dpi, printouts would be darker.

3. Try printing all characters as black

You can adjust darkness at the printer using the console menu.
In the Configuration Menu ' Print Quality sub Menu , there is a parameter called Tonor Density. Factory Default is 3. Set to 4 or 5 to increase darkness..

We have an HP T45 which works pretty well the only thing is that I cant read the screen -- the words are way tooo light is there anyway to fix it

No there isn't any option to increase ore decrease the displays darkness it is possible that the unit has a failing display causing ot to not be as dark as it once was. unfortunately HP no longer provides parts for these units so getting a part number would mean taking it apart and getting the HP spare part number off the display and searching for a new one.

I have a TI 83 and the screen is black

If it has batteries, and you are sure that it turns on, the darkness setting may have been cranked up to max. Press the 2nd button and then the up/down arrows in the top right. One will increase darkness, and one will increase brightness. You will probably have to press these over and over (roughly 5 times) untill you get the desired effect
