Most likely this will help solve your problem. Search Maytag (Wax Motor) and you will almost find out too much information on the subject. I recently encountered a problem with mine, (the old brown verison) that does NOT lock the door, therefore making the machine skip the spin cycle... Replacing this (Wax Motor) before it frys your control board is a must! Plus its only $15.00 and is a pretty easy install... hope that helps!

The wetness is due to the spin cycle either not working properly or not being allowed to finish. For the smell, with the washer empty, run a cycle on hot/whites with bleach only, after the first cycle drains, open the washer and add more bleach directly into the washer.
