I have the TV hooked up but no default channels are coming in. I thought that most tv's would at least get the basic local channels. Do I need bunny ears for this? or is there someway to have the basics work without bunny ears.

I have a set I'm working on right now, same model number and symptoms. It is a fairly common problem and the repair consists of replacing 3 transistors, one resistor and one VDR (voltage dependent resistor), along with re-soldering some connections on the main PC board. You'll need a technician to do the work, and it will likely be well over $100 to repair. I would consider replacing the set with a HDTV model if you can afford to. The picture tube may be the next to go.
I have just got a kv-20s43 and your best bet is to try to restore settings, here, To reset TV to factory settings, turn the TV on, Then, while pressing the reset button on the remote control, press POWER on the TV. The TV will turn itself off, then back on, the original settings wiill be restored... definition: ch. fix- 2-6: Select when you want to control all channel selection through a cable box. Select the appropriate channel(usually 3 or 4) and use the cable box's remote control for channel selection. VIDEO: select from available inputs when you have connected video equipment and you want your TV fixed to it.
make it sure that the coaxial cable has its own signal! if your tv has a raster (sometimes blue) and it says that the tv is good, but if there's no channel at all then the problem is in digital converter or the connection of the coaxial cable comes from..you can also try auto programing but if the problem still occured then contak your cable subscription channel
The problem turned out to be caused by a poor solder joint on R530. This is in the HV sensing circuit and is associated with IC501/ comparator. The resistor was replaced for good measure and proper operation restored.
My friend, you need to hook up a signal source such as an antenna or cable . The channels wont come in and it will all depend on where you live and how close to a major city on what and how good you will get the stattions. then once an antennena is connected, do the auto programming again. Good Luck
