Heaters that have rusted are tin plated or chrome finish, it can be hard to get a stainless steel heaters since some traders sell heaters as stainless steel but don't tell you the burner is made of tin. If you get a new heater just ask the question, is the burner tin or stainless steel? The problem with a burner that goes out can be a simple as changing the thermocouple, these are consumable and last between 2 to 5 years depending on use and storage. But if you have a yellow tipping this is not good, this can be caused by wrong fuel mix or faulty gas valve and is not an easy fix. Found this site very useful patio heater problem solving. Lots of info.

The pilot will not stay lit.

No, the pilot light fine now. It will just suddenly go out. It may be fine for 12 hours and in the middle of the night it goes out.

The pilot light will not stay lit to light the heater.

The power pile (pilot generator) is defective. It produces a milivolt signal to ensure to keep the gas valve open. If it goes bad, the valve thinks the pilot is out, even when you are holding the button down, so when you release the button, it shuts the gas off to prevent excess gas buildup and a possible explosion.

Charmglow tabletop heater: how do I remove the dome?

First make sure you have propane. Low propane can cause this too. Presuming its not the easy fix, its probably spiders that have built a web in the venturi (air) tube.

Remove the screws attaching the screen/shield to the body and it can be lifted from the body without taking off the aluminum heat dispersing shield. Next remove the 4 screws holding the burner in place and you should be able to lift out the unit to clean of of the spider webs. High pressure water may or may not work. You may need to use something like a pipe cleaner.

Patio Heater pilot lights won't stay lit

crappy pilot flame (not properly heating the thermocouple), bad thermocouple, thermocouple loose where it screws into the pilot safety valve, bad safety valve magnet.

One or more of those is the problem.

Oh...there is also a saftey switch...in case it tips over. It will also cause the pilot to not stay lit (if the switch or wires that go to i are faulty)
