The dishwasher cycle is taking 3 hours to complete - the manual says it should only take 96 minutes. What would make it take so long?

There is a "smartclean" sensor that measures dissolved solids in the water in an attempt to shorten the washing cycle. however if the dishes have much food left on them, then the washer will continue to run untill it gets a "clean" reading, or it reaches the max run time (180 minutes). all energy star dishwasher require the dishes to be throughly rinsed before washing in the machine. trust me, i know how counterproductive this is.

SOURCE: Dishwasher runs for a long time

If your dishwasher's cycle times are too long, check these:

Water pre-heating
Cycle not completing
Water pre-heating Yourdishwasher may pre-heat the water. If so, and if the water entering thedishwasher is cool, the heater may take up to half an hour to heat thewater.

To avoid the wait, increase the incoming watertemperature before turning on the dishwasher. Do that by running thekitchen sink faucet until the water runs hot. Or increase thetemperature of the hot water to the entire house at the hot waterheater.

Warning! To lessen the risk of scalding, don't set the hot water heater temperature higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

There are no adjustments for cycle timing. What does affect timing is temperature of the water coming into the DW. The hotter your supply water, the shorter the time to cycle, BUT if your water is too hot, the cycle time may become too short to light the NSF 'Sanitize' indicator. But since the cycle is taking so long, this is an indication that the DW's water heater is not heating the water hot enough to advance the countdown timer in a timely manner. The control logic is waiting for the temp to come up to an appropriate level to ensure adequate washing, rinsing or drying times. Likely your display is showing '1' for a long time as a symptom of this problem, as well.  - This link http://www.applianceaid.com/boschDW.html has procedures to run self-tests on various Bosch models. I suspect that you can confirm a 'heater fault' on your unit by running the self-test.  - This problem invariably relates to a 'heater fault' which has usually been traced to an open solder joint on the control board located behind the switches/indicator lights on front door. If you have a Torx driver, soldering iron & bit of solder, you can effect a repair yourself in about an hour. Otherwise, a replacement control board is required.
If you'd like to attempt replacing the control board yourself, refer to this link for part & DIY information. http://www.appliancejournal.com/appliance-parts/bosch-appliance-parts/bosch-dishwasher-control-module-266746-37/
- Else, place a service call to the tech of your choice.

Contact Whirlpool service immediately to get a service call scheduled before the warranty expires.
Most dishwashers that begin taking longer to complete the cycle have a failed heating element but that also normally means that the dishes do not get fully clean and the glassware has a film on it after the cycle ends.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: dishwasher runs for 3 hours

You may be running the sani-wash or heated drying. The heat element in these things takes a long time.

Check these and turn them off - then try another wash cycle and time it to see - should be one hour or less

SOURCE: dishwasher does not drain...stops in cycle...no matter what cycle

HI, this is a control fault. the logic chips are malfunctioning. these chips are responsible for initiating the proper washing cycle sequences. you will need to replace this damaged control board asap.

Why does my siemens dishwasher take 4 hours to finish running

Should only take 120 minutes to run a complete cycle. Your drain pump might not be expelling all the water.

What is your water temp. This model has 4 automatic water heat cycles built in to it and it heats the water to 145 degrees and won't let advance till that temp. If the water coming in is lower than 120 degrees it will add about 2 hours to your normal wash cycle.

Whirlpool Dishwasher GU3600XTSB 3 - 4 hours to complete washing

Wash time is determined by the cycle you select, the incoming water temperature and the installation location. The new machines will heat the water to a predetermined temperature and it takes roughly 1 minute for each degree of rise, If the incoming water is at 120 deg and the wash cycle wants 165 than it will take 45 minutes just for that one cycle to complete, Factor in an outside wall with poor insulation or lower water temperature and it could take even longer. Adp4601 taking three hours to complete cycle - suggestions as to why

Check your hot water temperature. Water should be 120 degrees and if not, the dishwasher has to heat it before it contunues on its cycle. I tested an old Bosch in my cold garage with cold water and it took an hour to get to the first drain cycle.

Hope this helps! Ken

Dishwasher takes hours to run through wash and dry cycle. what should normal cycle time be?

2 to 6 hours is possible. The newer machines have a water heat cycle that will raise the water temperature. lets say your incoming water is 90 degrees. The machine want to see 140 -165 depending on the cycle so that cycle will take 75 minutes to reach 165 (1 min per degree temp rise). multiply that by the number of wash and rinse cycles and it can run a very long time. Water should enter the washer at 120 degrees minimum. let it fill and measure the temp you will be surprised. Eric

What does the 2H mean? It seems to be the "standard" but the manual has no definition.

Great question!
2H means 2 hours -- 120 minutes ... the display only has 2 digits so it can not display 120 minutes. When the timer gets done near an hour an one half, it will start to display a countdown somewhere near 90 (minutes)
Yes, the cycles are long on the LG LDFxxxx dishwashers, just like all water and energy conserving dishwashers.
This really is a good dishwasher, recommend you keep the rinse aid dispenser filled up and ALWAYS use a brand name powder (like Electrosol or Cascade.) Also make sure when it was installed, it was properly leveled.
Hope this helps!

Wash cycle

momrules, it could vary depending on the water entering the dishwasher. On a heavy cycle normal time is about 85 minutes not including thermal holds ( pauses that heat the water). On a normal wash, 68 to 75 minutes not including thermal holds. If the water entering the dishwasher is not at least 120 to 140 degrees the dishwasher will pause in cycles to heat the water before advancing. So 120 minutes is not unrealistic. The heaters in the dishwasher are low wattage and will only heat the water approx. 2 degrees every 5 minutes. Catriver.
