Gear grinding noise when scanner wont work

HP 6110 all in one....scanner part works intermittently, when it won't it makes a gear grinding noise. Out of warranty, would like to get manual or diagram of how it is put together to try DIY repair. (spelling error on model number, resent email)

Unfortunately the problem can only be solved by replacing the plastic gear that is turned by the metal motor gear. The gear becomes loose on the axle and that allows enough movement for the motor metal gear to slip over it. If parts can be found, it is an easy fix but where can those parts be found

HP office jet 6110 all-in-one Scanner Failure message cannot be erased. When power is switched off/on makes load grating noise and Scanner Failure message reappears. Copier function will not work either.

Print head sticking needs oil on shaft that its slides on. Open cover and put a drop of oil on each side print head Shaft cut it back on and see if this helps .may half to do this 2 or 3 times to get the oil on to bearings . They dry out over time. Good luck

I have an HP 6110 is always has a grinding noise. No functions work. HP just want me to buy a new machine. They are bad quality 3 in one's. That is for sure.

All of the printers in this price class are of about the same quality. The replacement for the 6110 is now a 6410 or possibly 6510. The price has fallen to well under $150. Repair would cost upwards of $400. You be the judge.

The printer is making a gear clicking sound.

I had exactly the same problem with my OfficeJet 6110 as reported above (i.e. the scan head not knowing where the end-stop is). This is how to fix it (this method worked for me) 1) Lift up the scanner/copier hinged lid. Around the edge of the scan glass are 4 Torx screws. Undo all four screws. 2) Carefully prise the control panel faceplate off. The buttons underneath are on a single panel. Slide this to the left and lift off. 3) Jiggle the lid of the scanner to get it off the main body of the printer. 4) Locate the scan engine motor (top right corner) and remove the two motor retaining screws (one on the left of the motor, the other on the right). 5) Lift out the entire mechanism (rod, drive belt, scan head) and turn over. 6) Thoroughly clean all glass and mirrored areas of the scan head. Also clean the scan lamp on the top of the scan head. Clean the tray inside the scanner (where the scan head travels back and forth). Also clean the inside and outside of the scanner glass pane itself. 7) Refit all parts, using the technique described above, in reverse order. 8) Switch on printer. It should now work OK. Hope this helps, guys.

Scanner doesn't initialize on HP 6110 all-in-one

HP.com doesn't have any answers to this question on their support pages, but it sounds like a mechanical problem. Sounds like you'll need to take it in for service.

Printer problem

Mine does the same thing, it appears to be a scanner sensor that has failed. The machine starts by lighting up the scanner, then moving out of park position, then repeatedly trying to move it back into the parked position. It appears to be a sensor that is not working, and needs a part replacement.

HP 6110 scanner fault

There is a sensor on the right that is probably not working or is out of place. turn off printer and open door , move printhead all the way to the left and look at the right side of the printer, is anything loose there? ( the best way to describe it is to look for a piece that is like the symbol pi )
