I use the PAL version of this camera and it works fine for playing both Hi 8 and Digital 8 in the PAL format. Indeed I use this function for transferring all my old Hi 8 tapes onto the computer via the Sony Camera's Firewire port where I can edit the film and eventually burn them onto a DVD.

DCR-TRV250E is a PAL version camera of the Digital8 format.
Yes you can use Hi8/Digital8 NTSC tapes. The camera will record a PAL digital picture on the tapes which means that you can play back the tapes in PAL and therefore you will be able to playback recorded tapes on UK televisions because they are also of the PAL format.
Hi, You camera has problem of bad CCD Imager and this part will be replaced. DCR-TRV460E is PAL model and I assume you are in UK. Sony UK has free of cost repair scheme for subject problem in few models. Please check Sony CCD Support for free repair details. Regards,
