I would say it is in the Hibernation Mode To get it out of this mode you need to go to your Control Panel, open "POWER OPTION'S" and deselect the Hibernation mode then reboot.
I disabled the Hibernation when I was using the old usb keyboard and wireless optical mouse. I left the computer on for 4 hours and went to sleep and when I came back after the 4 hours I tapped the spacebar and the computer woke right up. I think disabling the wake from sleep with NIC helped. I'll try to remember to keep you posted if things are okay now. If you don't hear back from me on this matter then we corrected the sleep / wake problem
Still won't wake up when I tap the spacebar. I'm going to try to only use the power on and off button instead of the spacebar and mouse and see if that helps
Then you might Have Missing files in Command Prompt. Goto your "Run" Box and Type in CMD and press enter run CHKDSK /F to recover any lost files
I get this message when I run CHKDSK /F ( You have to invoke this utility running in eleavated mode )
Access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges
Well, since I switched the power cord from the pc tower computer from the used surged protector to the wall outlet, my computer doesn't go into a unrecoverable deep sleep. I have had success 3 times now waking up the computer from sleep mode. Before when I would log off or put the computer into sleep, I would see the Green light around the power button go off. Now when I put the computer to sleep the power button green light stays on and just blinks. I also changed the usb selective suspend option from disabled to enabled or on in power saver, high performance and balance, because I'm usb a wireless keyboard and mouse with a usb hub transmiter....I'll let you know if the problem is solved or not.
I disabled wake from NIC in bios setup as well. But, I still couldn't wake up my computer.

Have you gone into the BIOS to make sure there aren't any power managment features? Do you get the same thing happening if plugged into a different wall socket? Sometimes bad power surges can cause this problem. Other issues have been known to arise from motherboard problems. Or NIC power settings...strangely enough...a quick way to test if it's NIC related might be too unplug any cables from the NIC to see if it stays on or not? There are power settings on NICs in advanced settings. Let me know if any of that helps and remember to rate the solutions. Thanks!

I had the same problem on my computer that was running Windows XP. On boot up and even when entering the BIOS, keyboard worked fine, but when I got to the login screen, the keyboard would not work at all. The issue I found (I read in another forum) was that if you are using a USB mouse/ Keyboard, there are specific USB ports that they need to be connected to (if you have several on the back of your CPU). I believe the post I read said they needed to be in the 1st/top 2 ports. It worked for me when I switched the leyboard to the top USB port. Maybe it will work for you

I have a little usb transmitter for the keyboard and mouse, and the usb cord was plugged into the bottom row of usb ports. There's 4 usb ports on top and I re plugged the usb transmitter into the 1st top left row usb. there's 4 usb on the top row and 2 on the bottom row in the back of the computer. I'll see if moving the transmitter usb cord helps.
I'll also go into the bios setup and check the ethernet boot options. and recheck all the power settings.
I noticed in the bios setup the nic was set to wake the system, so I disabled it. Also quick resume technology was set to disabled, so I set it to enable for quick response mode for power button response.
I see what happens next time it goes to screen saver or sleep mode. I also set the hard drive not to turn off. I know that's probably not a good thing to do but I have no choice. One person here said that my pc might be jammed and I have a frooze vista and need to reformat and install vista. Is that true?
Yes that is true. I got my Vista Re-install DVD from Ebay for $19.99
My Dell Dimension 9200 XPS 410 PC desktop tower went to sleep again, after changing all the setting mentioned in this topic. I have a usb transmitter that is for my wireless keyboard and mouse and in power options there's a setting that says " USB Selective Suspend On or Off " Would that have anything to do with the keyboard and mouse not being able to wake the computer up? If so do I select on or off?
I have this computer plugged into a 8 plug in surge protector that I just received from a neighbor.

Ever since I unplugged the computer power cord from the surge protector and plugged it into a wall outlet, it's been waking up just fine. when it goes to sleep i now see the light around the power button blinking, before when the computer went to sleep the power light was off. I think the problem is solved. Bad surge protector
