Defective A1401099A HS Board

Problem: "Setup" menu pops up & disappears randomly for a few weeks, then stops for a year or 2, then starts again. Lately remote(s) stopped working but buttons on set still work. Would this most likely be due to a flaky button, bad solder joint, or temp. sensitive IC? Have read numerous web accounts of the fix being to replace the A1401099A HS Board but it's no longer available.

SOURCE: Sony KV-27FS100 does not respond to remote

Good day.

Maybe there are loose connections along the IC that supports the operation of your remote. This could also hamper initial set up operation of your unit. Also, check on loose connections along the power supply.

SOURCE: sony triniton 37 inch flat screen ( five years old)

First make the set have a hard reset. To do this, unplug the power cord for at least 4 hours to 6 hours (over night), and then try using the set. You will have to re-do the user setup. This will reset the internal programming and restore it to factory user defaults settings. Unplugging for a shorter period of time may not do the trick.

If the hard reset does not fix the problem it probably has a defective eeprom or a bad voltage regulator that feeds the controller IC-EEPROM IC's. In which case you will need a tv tech to dignose the exact fault condition and determine the failed parts. (There are about 120+ parts associated with these functions).

This can be a number of hours of work to troubleshoot. Then there will be the cost of the parts, if they are still available for this model. If the main IC/EEPROM has to changed, the complete factory alignments will have to be done.

SOURCE: Menu screen keeps appearing. Remotes no longer control the TV

Realized by avoiding scams like this website who want to cash in on frustrated electronics owners, and instead just talk to the manufacturer of my TV. Sony walked me through the problem and corrected it.

Nice try fixya.com, almost had another one

SOURCE: Front panel buttons and remote have stopped working.

Is the favorite channel menu a function that is normally accessed by a button on the remote?

If so, that button on the remote might be stuck.
If this is the case, the menu may at times pop up all by itself and other buttons on the remote and on the TV's front panel may not respond at all (it had happened on my remotes more than once).

Try to clean the remote control (the housing, rubber pad with knobs, circuit board) with ethyl alcohol, when you clean the housing, you should also clean the holes through which the buttons protrude, there might be some dirt that keeps the button stuck.

It may also be a stuck button on the TV front panel, so check these too.

Also, it could be something else, i just wrote the description of a problem and the solution which to me seemed most likely.

Hope you get it fixed.

regards

How to reset to factory conditions without a remote a panasonic SAHT74

While stopped and "DVD/CD" is the source, press and hold [STOP] on the main unit and [>10] on the remote control until "INITIALIZED" disappears from the TV. Turn the unit off and on again. All settings will return to the default values. (This does not work during program and random modes, or when setup menu or START menu is displayed.)

Samsung TV HPS4253 menu continues to pop up randomly

Its probably the buttons (hopefully) you can open the tv and disconnect this control panel most of the time. Sometimes the remote (IR) signals go through this board. If the problem continues without board connected, its likely the main board = more expensive (100-300 $ part)

Black menu-like box randomly appears, covering the picture

This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?

Menu Appears "on it's own"

I have seen five types of causes for this type of fault. The fifth one is extremely unusual.

  • The uPC, and or the IR reciever and remote data amp circuits in the set went defective and started addressing functions from noise generation.
  • The control panel circuit board in the set has gone defective, and randomly addresses functions. (Sometimes people spill liquid inside while cleaning the set and damage this circuit board).
  • In the room, there are some compact fluorescent, or fluorescent lighting, and the frequencies from the lights are causing the IR addressing to malfunction.
  • The remote control itself is defective and sending commands. (Remove the batteries to test).
  • You have an unscrupulous neighbor that enjoys to annoy you, they can see your TV set in the window, and he or she is messing with it using a compatible remote! Very very rare to have this one! (Keep your curtains pulled to see if this fixes this type of fault).

Menu keeps popping up

Never a good idea to clean with any spray cleaner. The cleaner does get down in the button bar and cause corrosion and shorting along ribbon cable. Use screen wipes for computer monitors only on TV's and any type of monitors. You can remove the back of the case. And remove the button board and clean with a cue tip and alcohol along ribbon cable.

Sony KV-32S26 32"

One of the front control switches, that are located in the back of the buttons on the front of the set most likly are damaged or broken. These switchs are small and your going to need to pull out the entire chassis of the TV set to replair or replace them. If you have solid state TV repair experience thenm it should not be a big deal, but if you DONT please seek out a local tech to assist you with this repair as sliding out a TV printed circuit board can be a tricky thing, as it can bend ,crack or pop the surface mounted componets right off the board. A repair like this shouldnt cost alot. really all depends on if the board is damaged or not. good Luck
