On my Maytag SAV365ZAW, for the purpose of my issue, if you consider the agitator as 3 pieces. The fabric softener cup, the tower, and the base. The issue is the tower (with fabric softener cup attached) just lifts off the base. So when filled with water and clothes the agitator/tub moves the clothes in a cirluar fashion, but the tower floats up and can not direct the clothes in a rotating top to bottom motion. I can not find a place for a locking screw anywhere, no existing screws, and no holes where one may go. I've removed the fabric softener cup and there is no where to tighten or replace any screw to lock the tower down. Additionally, when I pull the tower piece off the base I see no where any screw could be used to attach the two pieces.
Can anyone help me Please????

Re: Maytag SAV365ZAWW Agitator Comes Apart
The should be a bolt that goes thu the center that holds that down with the bottom part of the agiatator.. it might have pulled loose or rounded out the whole for the top part
here is a link and a pic

first check the belts look under the machine maytags used to have two belts. if theyre slipping then your going to have to figure out how to re tension them. hopefully its the agitator cams. your going to have to study how your agitator comes apart, inside the agitator are a set of one way cams, usually the cap comes off and the cams are down inside. if the agitator does nothing at all with the belts are present then transmission or computer or timer failure. i believe all you have to do is put you fingers underneath it grab the sides and pull up,that will remove the whole agitator,if you want to change the dogs, pop off the top fabric softener dispenser and take out the 7/16 bolt and remove middle section, change your parts and put it back the same way you took it apart
If this is a true Maytag, there is a 1/4 inch hex head bolt in the lower portion of the agitator, on the side. Loosen the bolt and pull the agitator off. If not a true Maytag I will need a model number.
This is a simple procedure. Just follow these steps:
1. Remove the center post cap or fabric softener dispenser (if equipped) from the agitator by gently prying it off.
2. Under the center post cap locate the air gap plastic cap (if equipped) and remove.
3. Remove the center bolt of the agitator. You will have either a 7/16” hex bolt or a recessed square plastic nut.If you have the square recessed type, use a 3/8” to ½” ratchet adapter to remove.
4. Remove the upper portion of the agitator (called the "auger") by lifting straght up.
5. Remove the lower portion of the agititator by grasping the lower flanges near the bottom of the wash tub and pulling straight up.
This will expose the transmission shaft and anything that may be lodged under the agitator.
Reassemble in the reverse order of the instructions I provided. NOTE: Make sure you only tighten the agitator bolt until it is snug. Do not overtighten as this can break the agitator or restrict its movement.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
When you grab the fabric dispenser and move the agitator "counter "clockwise you should hear the rachet noise, once you try and move it back "clockwise" the fabric dispenser should slide inside the agitator and the agitator should NOT move.
you can remove the agitator. there are 3 steps to this. 1.take off the top plastic part of the agitator. 2 remove secondary plastic piece from inside of agitator 3. there will be a 7/16 bolt inside and will be deep so you will need a long extension to reach it. hold the fins of the agitator and remove the bolt with a ratchet. once the bolt is out you will be able to lift the agitator up.
If this is a Maytag Performa or Atlantis model all you have to do is remove the center cap on the agitator by pulling on it and locate the agitator bolt underneath. Loosen the bolt, and the agitator should pull straight up.
If this is a Maytag Dependable Care series there will be 1/4 inch screw along the side of the agitator towards the bottom. Remove this screw and the agitator will pull straight up.
I hope this helps you.
PS If the problem is due to the build up of fabric softener, soak in some hot water to loosen it up. Fabric softener is essentially a form of liquid wax and it is common for it to accumulate and clog the dispenser in this manner. Periodic cleaning is recommended.
On a MAV6000, you should be able to pop off the fabric softner cap, remove the fabric softner cup underneath, and finally remove the bolt underneath to lift up the agitator. (rocking the cap back and forth is usually the best method)
