MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format.
You need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto yourcomputer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3player. You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player willcreate a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting music files to mp3 file format:- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files
Go through your owners manual, depending on the type of Mp3 player there should be a system reset button. You will need to do this because it trying to play a song and shutting down is a good sign of a virus.
On the back is a very small hole at the bottom. Push the tip of a paper clip in the hole, this will cause a soft reset of the player, off times this will straighten out the player. If you think you need more, go to Sony's support site and down load the firmware update.
If your Matsui is working suggest you leave well alone -- I've been looking for utilities (new firmware, reflash utility and firmware extractor) and it's all very confusing.
Apart from the ghastly menu system the only problem I've had with mine £8 ($16 used from a flea market) is that Win XP's data write-behind feature means that XP merrily suggests that file transfers are complete when the player is still digesting the files. If you interrupt this by mistake XP stops responding or complains that data has been lost.
Try to reformat it. If that is not your solution then reflash your firmware from the small CD you recieved with your MP3 Player. If you don't have that software you will find it at the following link:
Download it and open the the " programs " (There is only one) Once you'e in that folder.... double click on this folder "stupdaterapp.exe" Just simply follow the instructions and you should be fixed.
Try to re-format it.
on player go to settings, then advanced then format. select format, say yes and it should reboot.
if that doesn't work you need to upgrade the firmware. got to iriveramerica.com, support, ultra portabale support and download firmware updater software.
