I often get the following message on my Canon iP6600D ink Jet printer. "More than one ink tank of the following color is installed." It is always referring to the same tank the photo cyan. I have refilled them many times and the message continues the same. If I remove the ink tank and reinstall it will eventually work. Sometimes it takes several times before it works. This is very frustrating and time consuming. Is there any way to by pass these messages? Thank you in advance Grampa9
I think I figured this B!tch out.
When you get the error:
"More than one ink tank of the following color is installed" or
"Ink cartridge not recognized"
Open up the lid where the cartridges are and hold done the "SEARCH" button. This has been working for me, and I bought my ip6600d in 2005, so my machine is old, and ready for this..........ORIGINAL INK!!! Never really used it beyond printing very few pics. So I was really pissed when I found these messages to almost 5 years after buying this printer. So to recap, open the lid where the ink cartridges are while holding the "SEARCH" button, hold it up for like 5 to 10 seconds, place lid down still holding the search button, then let go of the search button. I did notice the alarm was lit, but went away after I released the search button. Good Luck!!!
Until I held the search button down I had turned of the printer, reseeded the cartridges and open and closed the lid but it never worked.

I have the same problem, purchasing a new and genuine ink tank was no help. Only removing and reinstalling the tank, sometimes multiple times, seems to correct the issue. Every time it is the Magenta tank too...

I have the same problem, which is what led me to this forum. As you say the only solution I have found is to remove and re-seat the cyan cartridge.

This printer is crap!!! The cartridges are more expensive then the printer itself... and I still have this message...It usually worked with all your tips and tricks, but now it won't work at all...Can I bypass this message and print anyway? I want to print in black and white!!! I don't need this Magenta color!!!

Usually answered in minutes!
Took The Tanks out and re inserted 4 or 5 times, Blew out with air.But it still comes up with the error U071; I have two ink tanks of black ink installed.
I have the same problem with CYAN tank. After I re-install the tank 4/5 times I get the error U150. The tank is no more recognized. For this reason I have throw away two NEW tanks. UNGRY!!!
I have been having the same issue only with the magenta ink tank. I too would pop the tank back in, but usually just lifting the cover and closing it again is enough to solve the issue though I sometimes have to do this several times in a row.
I also experience this problem with both the Yellow and Photo Cyan cartridges. I would definitely recommend AGAINST purchasing this printer as the error U071 appears even on brand new ink cartridges. There needs to be a way to bypass this error condition!!!
Hi there
i have only just got round to replacing the ink in this printer. All inks aprt from the Cyan photo needed replacing but now I have the same problem - it wont recognise the cyan photo cartridge. Im on my tenth atempt now to get it to work but no luck so far - I thought Canon were suppost to be good !?
I have the same problem with this printer. Mine is with the magenta ink tank, where the message keeps coming up with 'More than one ink tank of the following color is installed' . I always buy cannon ink. I turn it on and off, on and off and eventually it works. Very frustrating when trying to get an important item printed.
Same problem but only the Magenta. I have replaced the cartridge more than once and still the problem exists. Canon Tech rep. acts as though there is no problem. When it works I like the print results. If you want to fix this problem the ONLY solution is to constantly open and close the cover until the error message goes away. Eventually I'll get a new printer. The nice thing is I don't have to look at Canon models anymore!
See Jennieg's comment it is the the same.
Last month my 1 1/5 year old iP6600D printer started to tell me I had more than one magenta ink cart. installed. I replaced the cart with a new cart. The new one worked a few days and now it the printer says U150 unrecognizable cart. with the Magenta ink. What's up CANON? Your web site was no help.
Exactly the same problem with an error message reporting two ink cartridges of the same colour have been installed. Genuine cartridges being used and not refilled. Canon helpdesk eventually tell me (after several emails asking questions that they already have the answers to) to try (buy) a new cartridge as the problem might be with the cartridge -- at their prices they must be joking! Last time I buy a Canon printer.
How do I access the cartridges in the Canon PIXIMA iP6600D to replace an empty cartridge?
yep, exactly the same problem, Only solution being to open and close the lid, reseat the ink tanks and eventually (though for no identifiable reason) it sorts itself out, until you turn it off and then next time back to square one again. Mine started doing this about 6 months after purchase. Guess what my next printer is NOT going to be...
Same problem with black ink cartridge. It warns that more then one is installed. I have always used new ink cartridges. It started after one year.
I have the same problem more than one ink tank or the following color is installed. How do you fix this. The ink tank is full!
Yep me too same ink tank message - that I have two of the same color. Now it worked ok for the 1st 6 months but now I can never count on it printing, in fact I have been fooling with it for two hours last night and two hours this morning. Reset the cartridge , turn the printer on and off, put in new cartridge . It doesn't matter what I try It won't work!!!!!! I guess Canon will give me the runaround or put a bandaid on by sending a new cartridge - and then it will happen again like to everyone else. I've had this problem already 3 mo. but eventually it would print blk. But heaven forbid now I need color prints. Never again will I buy a Canon Iif they won't make this right. Meanwhile,I work out of home and NEEEED some things printed. I guess I'll have to buy a new printer again!!!!!
Same problem, Cyan. Is there a solution?
Same problem! I have contacted Canon an I am awaiting their response in next couple of days. Will keep all posted!
my ip6600d went KAPOOT in august 2008, flashing the U150 error OVER AND OVER AGAIN. i've bought new ink and tried switching the chips, etc. nothing has worked. this machine is less than 2 years old. i've had no luck with canon support service. we thought this was a high quality photo printer. wish there was a solution. will try buying ANOTHER cyan ink tank and will return the faulty one, let's hope it works this time!
Have you solve the issue with U150 error? I have the same with U140 error which is the photo magenta ink tank
After literally an hour and a half of "lifting the lid" and repeating I gave the 6600 a swift kick in the side and it worked! Who ever said violence never solved anything?
I get error u150 and I tried everything I can think of I could get a new ink tank but I won't be happy if that doesn't work. Might be time for a new printer any ideas on a better one?
