Dell 942 all-in-one printer problems.

New ink cartridges, colored and black, have been installed but yet the control panel still says missing cartridges.. I have tried everything... The print quality is very poor..... Please help me..........

    I have already done all the things that you suggest.

    There is absolutely nothing that you have told me that works.



    I understand that Dell printers are not very good..... I have invested over 175.00 in printer cartridges and have new ones in the printer and nothing helps....... now, I am stuck with all the new cartridges.........

    I GIVE UP!!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER DELL PRINTER.

    when i put in me colour cartridge it says Cartridge missing. I have tried reinserting it loads of times but still no joy.

The problem is simple. Try inserting your old in cartridges. If the old ones work, the ink cartridges are defective. Contact Dell and get these replaced.
Otherwise the printer has a problem. try cleaning the metal contacts of the ink cartridge and the ink carrier.

I am getting the following error message: Black/photo cartridge missing

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

If these ink cartridges are new, then take them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacements. If they're old, then try purchasing a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge.

Re: The printer will not recognize the installing of a new color cartridge.

after installing a new cartridge you need to open the program for your printer tray and reset your cartridges so that the printer and pc reconize the cartridge is full

I have a Dell 942 AIO printer and though I have replaced both ink cartridges, the printer shows "Cartridge Missing - install black or colour cartridge on left hand side"

Have you removed the shipping tape on the print head of each cartridge? Is each cartridge locked in each of their housing? Try reinserting the cartridges. Turn the printer off then on again.

Dell 942 AIO printer won't recognise black cartridge:

I think you purchased a black cartridge with bad electronics. Basically your cartridge can't communicate with your printer and you should exchange it for a new one. There is no way to "fool" your printer into accepting refills with bad electronics. What you can do is when you get the message that you aren't using genuine cartridges and it won't be able to estimate ink levels is to check the box indicating to ignore the ink levels.

check to see if the color cartridge has the plastic tab on the cartridge. Remove and reinsert cartridge.

Missing black ink cartridge

924 says that black ink cartridge not installed

Hmmm....that sounds to be an issue with the ink cartridges...

You might be using ink cartridges purchased other than Dell or Staples...since these are the two who sell Dell Ink.

If thats not true, then take out both the cartridges in the printer.

Lets isolate the issue

1. Try only Black cartridge on Color slot(right). If you get Install both ink cartridges error, then its an issue with the Black ink cartridges and if you get message that install Black ink cartridge then its an issue with the prrinter.

2. Now install only color cartridge on Black cartridges slot(left), If you get color cartridge missing then its an issue with the Black cartridges which you are using and if you get install both ink cartridges then its an issue with the black slot on printer.

3. If issue found to be with Black ink cartridge then wipe the Nozzles(bottom) of the ink cartridge with lint free cotton cloth from back to front 5-6 times.

4. Also try replacing the ink cartridges purchased only from Dell or from Staples. Purchased from somewhere else or refilled might not work.

5. If issue found to be with printer, then i would suggest you to purchase new printer then.

Dell 942 AIO printer cartridge problem

Was your replacement cartridge a new dell product? If it was, the sensor on the prnter should recognize it as new and reset the indicator to full. If, however, the cartridge was refilled, remanufactured, or otherwise an off brand, the ink indicator will show it to be empty. Just ignore and use the printer as normal -- it will print just fine, but you may need to press the select button to get it to start printing the first page.
