This camera is over 5 years old, but very tiny and nice to put into purse. I have a larger new camera also. The dsc p5 doesn't always turn on (open the lens). It will turn on less than half the time, but then may turn on several times in a row. It is not the battery as this happens with the power cord. This seemed to start right after a trip to hawaii and I took a lot of shots off the boat (salt?) Is it worth fixing?
Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand (or in your case salt) in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.
Probly has salt spray sticking the lens cover shut

Salt spray might be the cause, but I think it's in the actual switch, because the lens cover looks clean. I think maybe there may be some corrosion on a contact inside the "Power" switch, but don't know how to fix.
Well, guys, thanks fro trying, but I still think it's the switch, and not being able to get to it, I guess I'll try to sell it for parts on ebay.
