Sony cybershot dsc p5

This camera is over 5 years old, but very tiny and nice to put into purse. I have a larger new camera also. The dsc p5 doesn't always turn on (open the lens). It will turn on less than half the time, but then may turn on several times in a row. It is not the battery as this happens with the power cord. This seemed to start right after a trip to hawaii and I took a lot of shots off the boat (salt?) Is it worth fixing?

Salt spray might be the cause, but I think it's in the actual switch, because the lens cover looks clean. I think maybe there may be some corrosion on a contact inside the "Power" switch, but don't know how to fix.

Well, guys, thanks fro trying, but I still think it's the switch, and not being able to get to it, I guess I'll try to sell it for parts on ebay.

Try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand (or in your case salt) in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

Are you sure it is your charger and not the battery? (Batteries)

You could buy a new Sony charger, but there are lots of universal camera battery chargers, that won't cost as much and you can use it for every battery from every camera. Pick the right one and you have a charger for years to come, whatever your new camera will be and how big or small the batteries are.

5 megapixels or more. In general, unless you're really tight on space or know you're not going to need the resolution, set your camera to its highest resolution (8 megapixels in your case) and leave it there. You can always make a large picture smaller; you can't make a small picture larger.

My sony dsc w-55 is 2 years old and now sometimes it shuts down in middle of recording or taking a pic...plz help

Check/clean the battery connections (use a cotton swab with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol). Also if that doesn't work, is the battery as old as the camera? If so, it definitely may be time for a new battery. Here's some to consider from Amazon.

The lens keeps on moving in and out and there is a sign on the screen to turn off and back on the camera... I have a sony cybershot dsc-w55

I have a cybershot DSC-P5 that was doing this. The plastic ring around the lens that is glued to the casing had become warped. We simply popped it off, brushed/scraped the excess glue away and put the casing back on, now it works fine! Just store it properly and keep an extra eye out for dust coming in where the lens used to be.

Sony cybershot dsc-11

The ccd sensor in the t1 is faulty. i've had mine for over 5 years, about 2 years ago, i took a trip to san fran. hoping to snap wonderful pics with my camera. When i arrived i snapped a few pics only to realize later, that all the camera had captured was a white screen. i did some internet searching and found a page, much like this one explaining that the ccd is faulty. i called sony and explained my issue, and they informed me that the ccd is indeed faulty, and that they had a free repair service for it. my camera was fixed for free, and currently is as good as new. the bad news in all of this is that, the free repair service was canceled no more than a few weeks after my incident..... good luck.

Screws loose Sony Cybershot DSC-T200

Yes! You can do this! Gently try to get the camera back together with all parts appearing in proper place. Then screw the screws tight, but don't over tighten them! To prevent this problem in the future, you can put a tiny drop of Superglue or Locktite glue on the screws, but try to not remove them completely as they are easy to lose and sometimes a bit too easy to get cross-threaded!
Good Luck & Best Wishes! You Can Do This!
