Im running a dell inspiron 530S, only had it for 18 months. The cdrom doesnt recognise blank dvds, only blank cds. Ive never tried blank dvds before so i dont know if it was working and then stopped.
Error message says 'please insert writable disk, there is no disk in drive'. Data discs are fine, only problem is with blank dvds.
I have done every suggestion I can, from rebooting to uninstalling device manager, etc. Nothing has helped.
Please help!!
Its only cd writer burner and can only that it can read dvd disc also. That is why its called combo. But burning blank dvd it can't. But if you want buy some dvdburner too.

Hi
Thanks all for the posts.
Im not terribly pc literate as you can probably guess. I hunted around and found it is a DVD-rom, so I feel like a bit of an idiot!
This is probably going to sound like a stupid question but; Is there anything I can do to make it burn DVDs? have downloaded some freeware called CDburnerXP does this make any difference?
Thanks for any replys
You said in your post "The cdrom doesnt recognise blank dvds". If the drive is truly a cdrom drive, then it will only recognize a blank cd, not a dvd. It could also be a combo drive that READS dvds but does not write them. You may need to upgrade your drive. If your drive is supposed to write dvds, it should say "dvd-rw" or "rw" or "rewriteable" somewhere on it. If it says "dvd-rom" it will only read, not write.
