USB Designer 1s use Disk Manager, just like their floppy disk sisters, but it needs to be Disk Manager USB. New USB Des1s came with this program on a CD, and this software was also included free when a floppy disk Des1 was converted to USB. If you bought your D1 USB new, check the disks that came with it - one should be Disk Manager USB. If you purchased the machine second hand, contact the seller and ask for the program. It is a free standing program and you don't need a dongle. Check your 3D software - you might already have what you need. Open 3D, click down arrow for Accessories (far right-hand side) - what does your Disk Manager say? If it says Disk Manager USB you are okay to go.
I am not 100% sure of this, but I think that maybe the last update for 3D software (version 7.25) might have included Disk Manager USB. Go to the Husqvarna website and make sure your 3D is updated to the latest version.
If none of the above helps you, there is always the cheap cost embroidery software alternatives: Embird or Sew What. I believe they can write to Designer 1 USB sticks now.
Not sure which version of Husqvarna software you have. The older Customizing is problematical on Vista (for which read forget it LOL!) but 3D or 4D are fully supported by Husqvarna for installing on Vista. Make sure you have the latest updates for your program installed and check the FAQs on the Husqvarna website for help.
3D was intended to be used on XP and also worked for some time on Vista with the proper manipulation of updates. I don't believe that it will work at all on Windows 7.
4D does work on both Vista and Windows 7. It does need the latest update for Windows 7.
You should check if there is a product update for your program, if not then contact their customer support. They'll probably have to provide you with a newer version.
Did you install the communication software that came with the sewing machine? If you did and it's still not working, try turning off the multi user account if you're using Windows Vista. Also if you had 3d and upgraded to 4d, make sure the drivers for 3d are uninstalled in the Ad/Remove Programs area under the control panel. I hope that helps, send me a comment if you need more help.
if you get an option during setup for, express or custom installation, pick custom instead and uncheck the install quick time. otherwise just uninstall you current version of quicktime, install the program then update the quicktime
Take a look at the comments on this product at Amazon.com. Despite what it may say on the box, no one with XP was able to get it to work.

This is an old program, and what's likely happening is you have TOO much virtual memory. What I mean by that is that the program was written so long ago they expect a maximum size of virtual memory. When your number exceeds that, in a computer program, frequently the number wraps around to zero and goes negative (internal to the program). This is likely the issue.
Sorry, but the program is too old and unstable to run successfully on XP.
