Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the HP 10S calculator does not perform matrix calculations.
You have 9 variables A to F, M, X and Y. You can use them to store data, constants, calculation results, and other numerical values.
To store say the value 5674 in Variable A you press the key sequence 5 6 7 4 [SHIFT] [STO] A.
To recall the value stored in A (and use it in another calculation) you press [ALPHA] [A]. It will be displayed and you can do with it any calculation you want.
You can enter (store) data in Statistics modes

  • Mode 2 is for standard deviation SD (1-variable statistics)
  • Mode 3 is for Regressions.
You will have to read the manual starting from page 23.

I get ERR: DATA TYPE

Error Data Type mean that you entered a value or variable that is the wrong data type:
• For a function (including implied multiplication)
or an instruction, you entered an argument that
is an invalid data type, such as a complex
number where a real number is required. See
Appendix A and the appropriate chapter.
• In an editor, you entered a type that is not
allowed, such as a matrix entered as an element
in the stat list editor. See the appropriate
chapter.
• You attempted to store an incorrect data type,
such as a matrix, to a list.

Hi my name is paul and I'm trying to get more help for Statistics, there was help for finding mean, but i can't find help for standard deviation. Also, for another professor I can't figure out, by the...

Here is some help. Please read both parts attentively.

TO COMPUTE STANDARD DEVIATION AND 2-VAR STATISTICS.

I assume you know the theory. I will show you the key strokes

For 1-Var statistics
Press [MODE][3:STAT] [1:1-VAR]. You are ready to enter values in the X column.
Enter a number and press [=]. Cursor jumps to second number to enter.
Keep entering numbers and pressing [=] till all numbers are in. Press the [=] key after the last one.
Press [AC] key to clear the screen.
Press [SHIFT] [STAT] (above digit 1.) then [5:Var]. Screen displays the statistical variables 1:n ;2: x bar; 3: x sigma n; 4:x sigma n-1.
Press the number corresponding to the statistical value you want, ex 1:n . The variable appears on screen. Press [=] and it will be displayed.
To display another variable press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var][ 1,2, 3, or 4] .

To access the sum of squares sigma x^2 and the sum of data sigma x press[SHIFT][STAT][4:SUM] then [1: for sigma x^2] or [2: for sigma x]. Press [SHIFT][STAT][6:MinMax] to access minX and maxX.

For 2-var statistics
To perform 2 variable statistics you press [MODE][3:STAT] and any of the other regression options (except 1:1-Var). A two column template opens where you enter the X and Y values. When finished entering data, press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var]. to access the different statistics. As I assumed above, you should be able to recognize what each variable means.

ABOUT MATRICES

This post is rather exhaustive as regards the matrix capabilities of the calculator. So if the post recalls things you already know, please skip them. Matrix multiplication is at the end.

Let me explain how to create matrices. (If you know how to do it, skip to the operations on matrices, at the end.)

First you must set Matrix calculation
[MODE][6:Matrix]. Then By entering one of the numbers [1:MatA] or [2:Matb] or [3:MatC] you get to choose the dimensions of the matrix
(mxn]. Once finished entering the matrix you clear the screen.
The operations on matrices are available by pressing [Shift][Matrix]
[1:Dim] to change the dimension of a matrix (in fact redefining the matrix)
[2:Data] enter values in a matrix
[3:MatA] access Matrix A
[4:Matb] access Matrix B
[5:MatC] access matrix C
[6:MatAns] access the Answer Matrix (the last matrix calculated)
[7:det] Calculate the determinant of a matrix already defined
[8:Trn] The transpose of a matrix already defined

To add matrices MatA+MatB (MUST have identical dimensions same m and same n, m and n do not have to be the same)
To subtract MatA-MatB. (MUST have identical dimensions, see above)
To multiply MatAxMatB (See below for conditions on dimensions)
To raise a matrix to a power 2 [x2], cube [x3]
To obtain inverse of a SQUARE MatA already defined MatA[x-1]. The key [x-1] is the x to the power -1 key. If the determinant of a matrix is zero, the matrix is singular and its inverse does not exit.

Dimensions of matrices involved in operations must match. Here is a short summary

The multiplication of structured mathematical entities (vectors, complex numbers, matrices, etc.) is different from the multiplication of unstructured (scalar) mathematical entities (regular numbers). As you well know matrix multiplication is not commutative> This has to do with the dimensions.

An mXn matrix has m rows and n columns. To perform multiplication of an kXl matrix by an mXn matrix you multiply each element in one row of the first matrix by a specific element in a column of the second matrix. This imposes a condition, namely that the number of columns of the first matrix be equal to the number of rows of the second.
Thus, to be able to multiply a kXl matrix by am mXn matrix, the number of columns of the first (l) must be equal to the number of rows of the second (m).

So MatA(kXl) * MatB(mXn) is possible only if l=m
MatA(kX3) * Mat(3Xn) is possible and meaningful, but
Mat(kX3) * Mat(nX3) may not be possible.

To get back to your calculation, make sure that the number of columns of the first matrix is equal to the number of rows of the second. If this condition is not satisfied, the calculator returns a dimension error. The order of the matrices in the multiplication is, shall we say, vital.

I am attempting to do some basic 2x2 matrix multiplication on my Casio fx-115ES calculator, however it is behaving oddly and I do not know why. I can do the following: Press Mode, Press 6 for Matrix,...

When you press MODE 6 for Matrix, you're clearing any previously entered matrices. So, you're clearing MatA when you go to enter MatB.

Instead, after entering MatA press SHIFT 4 to bring up the Matrix menu, press 1 for DIM, press 2 for MatB, press 5 for 2x2, and enter the data.

I am trying to drive a prediction equation. but the book gives directions to aTI-84 and I have a TI-89. I have these steps "STAT, EDIT, L1, L2,STAT, CALC,LinReg(ax+b), ENTER" I have no clue how to make...

I assume you know how to enter data in your calculator. The keystrokes in the following pertain to TI92/92Plus/ Voyage 200 PLT. The main differences with the TI89/Ti89 Titanium is that the function keys F6,F7,F8 are not accessed directly but by the key sequences [2nd][F1], [2nd][F2], and [2nd][F3] respectively

1. CLEAN THE SLATE (so to speak) and ENTER DATA

In Home folder run F6: NewProb to reset the configuration.
Press Apps, and select 6: data/Matrix editor. Select a new data set
84e1901.jpg

Give it a name: here testing.

2133d3f.jpg

Press OK/ENTER, The data entry screen opens, enter your values.
0ab1602.jpg

When you finish press F2.PlotSetUp.

2. Statistical plot setup and scatter plot drawing

b142867.jpg.

Press F1:define to configure Plot1. Choose Scatter, then choose a mark for the data point. I select 5:Dot. and press [ENTER
0ee40be.jpg

Select the data column X=c1, Y=c2

65437f9.jpg

Press ENTER to save configuration. Press [CTRL] [GRAPH] On my TI92 the CTRL key is the [Diamond] key. On the following graph I changed the mark to a cross to see the data point better. I also played with the window dimension. You can also do that with ZoomStat. The graph remind me of a parabola (I know I chose the exact values)

7de9410.jpg

3. STATISTICAL CALC. AND REGRESSION ANALYSES.

Now we have to find the equation that fits these data best.
You press APPS 6:Data/ Matrix editor but you select current to return to your data set. You are taken to the data entry editor (Figure 3 above). In that screen Press F5:Calc to edit the type of statistics you want

On first line select the type of regression model : Linear Regression, QuadReg quadratic regression (or anything else available) X is from column1, Y is from column 2. Store RegEQ The regression equation in say Y1(x)

7c9f572.jpg

Press ENTER to save to get the Regression Equation. Here it is
As you can see I cheated: a perfect parabola. R^2 =1.

c46b604.jpg

And here the best fit represented on same graph as the statistical data

7097bac.jpg

Usually you have to try different regression models, until you find the one that fits best the experimental data.

I want to know how to save the data in FX9860G calculater

I do not know what you mean exactly by DATA. They might be formulas you want to enter without your teacher knowing about them. In that hypothetical case i wont't answer. Awfully Sorry!

Bu if the data actually refers to numerical values you want to store in lists, matrices or other mathematical objects, the procedure is simple.

Open the object you want to use (list, matrix ,etc.) edit the object to enter or modify the values, click EXE after each entry and press [SHIFT][QUIT] to quit the entry screen.

In the following screen capture I show a 3X3 matrix. (MatA)

cc604f0.jpg

As long as the memory is not erased by a hardware RESET or a soft reset and batteries are good, your data will reside in the calculator Memory

I hope it helps you and others who wonder how to do regressions on a TI89. If someone does not understand these explanations, the blame does not rest with me.

My computer will not boot up, gets to the HP blue screen & stops there; what are my options to not lose data on my computer

Hi there. My name is Alex and Im here to help solve your problem.

Can you boot into windows via safe mode?? If you can then great, you can enter safe mode by constantly pressing F8 before windows boots then selecting safe mode. Once in safe mode, you can take off any important data. If this is sucessful then all you have to do is format your computer by reloading windows once your data has been taken off.

If this doesnt allow you into safe mode, then dont worry, you can take out your hard drive and put it into another computer if you have one or know someone who has one, set the jumper of the hard drive to 'slave' and take off all your data like that.

If you have 2 partitions on your computer, for example if you have your hard drive divided into 2 parts, then even better as you can save all your data to the secondry partition and only format the c partition (the partition where windows is saved) normally c.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
