Hello: When the condition occurs pull over, do no turn engine off, open hood on the passenger side there is a line that comes out of the accumulator, if it is white(frosted up) the you have a low pressure switch that is not working properly. This switch cuts the compressor off to keep the system from freezing up. If you have this condition you can fix it yourself. Get a new switch and o ring, put a small amount of oil on the o ring. Unscrew the old switch, screw the new one in (electrical connector disconnected before removing old switch) connect the connector. You will not loose the freon as there is a schrader valve that will keep the freon in the system.
It is normal for the electric fan to cut off and on while the vehicle is running, there is a sensor in th radiator controlling the fans, switching them in when it senses the coolant temperature is too hot. The fans then run until the temperature reaches normal range again and the fans switch off. It is also normal for the fans to cut off and on with the air conditioning running. If they are coming on at any other time, such as when the engine is not up to half way on the gauge and the air con is off, there is likely a problem with the sensor or relay.
Check the air conditioner fuse and replace as necessary.
Air conditioner system discharged.
Have the system evacuated, charged and leak tested by an MVAC
certified technician, utilizing approved recovery/recycling equipment.
Repair as necessary.
Air conditioner low pressure switch defective. Replace switch.
Air conditioner fan resistor pack defective. Replace resistor pack.
Loose connection, broken wiring or
defective air conditioner relay in air conditioning electrical
circuit. Repair wiring or replace relay as necessary.
If the air conditioning is on, then the engines idle will increase when the air conditioning compressor cuts in, and slow down again when the a/c compressor cuts out again. If your model has a heat switch, if this is on, then the engine will idle faster, until the engine temperature reaches about 50 deg C, then as the glow rail switches off, the idle also drops back to normal.
Hello, It sounds like your unit is going into defrost mode. Heat pumps struggle below 35 degrees F. Make sure the coils are clean so the unit will work at peak performance. They do make a heat strip to put in these units to help with cold temperatures. If you need more help just ask. Good luck.
