The igniter on our G.E. JGP975SEK2SS 5-burner cooktop continuously fires. Regardless of the position of any of the 5 burner controls: ignite, on, off, or in between. Any suggestions? I notice this is the fourth most viewed G.E. site on my search engine.

excellent it worked thank you. but now the burner in the back of that side, the igniter doesn’t click?... I have to turn on the front first then turn the back on to have the gas get the light of the front. any idea what is wrong?...and would that be the switch or the igniter?

SOURCE: Clicking noise on cooktop even when all burners ignite

I have a viking gas cooktop. The ignitor on one of my front burners wouldn't stop clicking even after the flame ignited. I swapped that ignitor with the ignitor from a back burner, expecting that the problem was with the ignitor and that the back burner would start to click incessantly, but at least I'd have my favorite front burner for use. Instead, the front burner was then only clicking 50% of the time and the back burner was fine, suggesting the problem was related to the burner not the ignitor. I pulled the front ignitor a bit away from the burner and now it is working normally. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Viking Gas Cooktop - Ignition sparks continuously when in 'on' position

This is likely caused by either a dirty ignition electrode, a cracked ignition electrode, or a bad spark re-ignition module.

Clean and inspect the six electrodes for cracks, If that doesn't solve it order a new
Ignition module from an internet appliance dealer that carries Viking parts like Appliance Zone.

If you replace the Ignition module yourself, make sure to turn off the circuit breaker to the range/cooktop before you work on it. Also, make a drawing of where the different color leads are plugged into the ignition module before you unplug the wires and plug them into the new re-ignitor. If the unit is under one year, this should be covered under the warranty.
Viking had a recall a few years back on their ignitor modules.
