;lakjsd;kfjasdifoa!!! This same problem is driving me crazy. Calling Charter customer service was as much help as asking my grandma. Great news though, Indian John Smith CS rep found two ways to solve the problem:
UPGRADE!! -- yeah, I'll hop right on that.
Universal Remote -- those are always fun.
Thanks customer service. You're always so much help.

That should give you the connection options. The short answer, though, is to connect the best audio out from DirecTV to an audio in on the surround sound and then choose that option in the surround sound system when you want to watch TV.
I found a website for the remote you need. I need one too. Go to remotes.com and put your model number of DAV 3102 in the space. It will show you the original remote and a replacemet you can use. Kind of expensive but worth it to me.
what you have done is you are sending a component video signal from your system to your tv and the sound i assume comes through the 5.1 surrond speakers.
The DVD's you play the sound would naturally come from the 5.1 surround speakers, unless your instruct the dvd player to send the sound to the tv in which case will only be played as stereo.
you will need inputs on your dav system to take sound from your tv outputs or digital box by way of red and white phono leads or a digital/optical input if you have them; so as to play the sound from cable tv or sattelite tv through your 5.1 surround speakers.
