When depressing the on button, nothing happens...lights flicker as if the unit has power....same when plugged in or running off battery. Any suggestions? Had laptop about 2 months.
Try to diconect power cord and a battery and leave it for 10-20 min. Then plug them back. I solved once such an issue with MSI Gaming notebook GX600. Good Luck!

I am guessing that the lights are near the network cable plug? This simply shows that there is a signal on the network cable that is plugged-in. The laptop may be dead. Is there a light on the power supply? If you remove the battery, plug the power in and press the power button, what happens?
There are a few things left you can try. First take the battery out and make sure the unit is unplugged. Next push the power button a few times to discharge any power inside the unit. Now put the battery back in and while plugging in the unit see if the charge light comes on or flickers at all.
If it flickers and goes out, you have a bad power cord or worse a bad jack on the laptop's main board. If it never comes on, you have a bad power cord or mainboard. The battery is probably dead (doesen't have a charge left in it.)
You said this happens regardless of if the battery is inserted. Have you tried powering up the unit with no battery installed and just the power plug?
I'd see about gettting a replacement cord first. If that doesen't do it you probably have a bad board.
Remove the battery and keep the battery unplugged.
Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (Nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)
Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY. (Please note that a power indicator light should be lit on the ac adapter when it is plugged in).
Normally power on the notebook.
If the unit does not power on, remove the ac adapter and insert the battery into the system.
Plug the ac adapter back into the system, the battery charging indicator light will light up. If the battery charging indicator light does not light up, the ac adapter may not be providing proper power to the unit, and may need to be replaced.
Removed the power conection and remove the battery as well and press and hold the power button for 5 to 7 sec and then connect the battery and power cable and try to turn on
