Heat or not using the right replacement IC if it keeps burning out. If it is the first time it happened, the heat sink compound dries up, and then the heat transfer goes down and the IC overheats. If the IC is burning out a short time after you replace it, you are probably using a cheapo aftermarket type or a factory reject IC. You need to use an original replacement, not just one with the same numbers because all IC's are not alike, even with the same numbers. You also need to put new heat sink compound paste on the back of the new IC's before you replace them.

Samsung PCL542R the Timer light is on and TV will not turn on

TV is in shutdown, may be caused by a shorted convergence amp IC. Also could be caused by any short in secondary B+ supply. Unplug supply to converg amps, if TV comes on, but out of convergence then you have a shorted IC, STK-392-010

First color alignment problems then no pix or sound, just chirpin

If the unit is chirping your convergence amps are out again,or you have a shorted Horzontal output transistor. Not likley for horz output to go out after convergence repair. If he did not replace the 6.8 ohm resistors along with the convergence amps the convergence amps would overheat and short out again. This would explain why the corner would not adjust out. Not a very good buisness practice on his part. Here today gone tomorrow?

Magnavox 51MP392H Convergence Amps

I always stick with the OEM stk #'s - for one..... also it sounds like you may have some damaged resistors in the convergence section. Pull one leg of each resistor and measure the impedance of each one to make sure they are in spec.

If you need a service manual, go to techlore.com , click the Resources tab, then click technicians corner. You will be ale to click "see all downloads" and look for the magnavox 52mp392h/17,

or you can try this link:

hope all this information helps!

Magnavox Projection Model # 9P5034 C101

Yes you will need to discharge any electrical equipment before working. One way of doing this is keep equ. unplugged for sometime or after unplug short hot to ground which will most times cause a spark. You can go to vancebaldwin.com or andrewelectronics.com or any online parts store and get the part number off old IC, yes these are on the convergence module. They are big STK's, also there are resistors that will need to be changed and maybe pico fuses.

Amps replaced...still getting 3D pix. The amps are not getting power. HELP!

Hi Brulia

There should be approximately 8 to 10 fuseable resistors around those convergence ics. They should stand out as they are a bright yellow colour. You should measure a short over them. If none of these are faulty I would leave the supply to the convergence alone and rather check the +5V / -5V and +12V supplies used by the convergence logic ICS. A common problem is the - 5V supply also used for your HT-protection cct op-amps. These ics goes short and pulls the supply to ground. There is no protection on these before mentioned supplies and therefore the set is still switching on but with a convergence problem.

Hope this helps.

Vertical problems

This sounds like convergence amps not vertical, what was the set doing prior? If convergence amps first check: E2RESET DOES NOT RESET THE CONVERGENCE. THE CONVERGENCE CAN BE RESET BY PRESSING "MENU 12598970", IF THIS DOES NOT RESET THE CONVERGENCE TRY "MENU 125968970

My Picture is in Red and Green??

This is a convergence problem. From your menu, go to Menu, Function, Convergence and then use you remote to try to adjust your colors. If you can not get them to line up this is a problem with the convergence board. The convergence amps (STK392-040 x 2)are internally shorted. These can be replaced or the whole convergence board can be replaced. It's cheaper to replace the amps, but more convienent to replace the board (especially for the less electronically inclined!! :) Hope this help you out....
